She always thought that life was pretty simple. You were born, you lived life the best you could, and then you died. Simple right? Well who knew, fate wanted to fuck all that up.
Apparently you can't just go on your merry way if you have some sort of 'power'. You can't live with your family, go to school, make friends, get a job, and die of old age like a normal human being. No, if you have any sort of 'power', the government will find you, rip you from your home, and ship you off you a camp where they train you to become a weapon for their own needs.
That's where her story starts. Kaliyah was just twelve years old, and other than the odd diamond like shape of her pupil, she appeared to be a normal person. Well, until that year it is.
"Mom!" Kaliyah called running over to her mother who was cooking something over the stove.
Her mother didn't even glance at her daughter, "Kaliyah dear, how many times must I tell you not to run in the house?"
Kaliyah sighed, looking up at the looming back of her mother. They both had the same long black hair that was tangled and dirty, ragged clothes stained with dirt, "Sorry mom."
Once again she didn't look back as she spoke, "Some men are coming to the house this afternoon, I expect you to be on your best behavior."
"Of course mom." Kaliyah nodded quickly even though her mother couldn't see her.
It wasn't to long after that when the doorbell rang and five armed men in military clothes walked in through the front door. Her mother introduced them as the men she had been talking about earlier. Kaliyah sat by the fire place silently as the adults talked.
"Kaliyah," Her mother finally called to her, still not looking at her daughter, "This is Sir Zale, he wants to ask you some questions."
The man smiled down at the dark haired girl, but it seemed forced. His bald head was covered with scars and his left eye was misty and gray, the other eye was a cold unforgiving blue. "Miss Kaliyah, I just need to ask you a few questions."
She frowned at the large man that towered over her, "Why?"
"Because I was ordered to." He stated almost seeming confused at her question.
"Why were you ordered to?" She asked glaring up at him.
The man sighed, "Miss-"
"Is it because I'm different?"
"Kaliyah!" Her mother yelled, finally looking over at the young girl, her green eyes were dark with anger, and what appeared to be disgust, "Behave!"
Slowly Kaliyah lowered her head, "Yes mother."
After a minute of silence the man spoke up again, "Have you ever done anything that is not normal?" She shook her head. "Have you ever disobeyed a order from a higher up?" Once again she shook her head. "Have you ever wished to rebel against the government?" Frowning she shook her head again. "Okay last question," The man said, a tired smile on his face, "Have you ever wished for a 'power'?"
This stumped her. Who wouldn't wish for a 'power'? You could control fire, or water, or wind. Anything was possible with the 'power', as it was really unknown where it came from or how one got it.
The man seemed to take her hesitation as a yes and turned to his team mates, "We should take her in to get checked."
One of the other men nodded and whispered something to the mother. With that, Sir Zale picked her up and they left the house. Kaliyah couldn't say that she was sad to leave, but she wasn't really excited for the journey ahead.
Sir Zale looked down at her small figure as he put her in the back of their vehicle, "Don't worry Miss Kaliyah, you will be safe soon."
Even though he smiled as if he was speaking the truth, Kaliyah knew what happened to people who had the 'power', and they were anything but safe.
