Kaliyah woke to a face inches from hers.

"Guys! She's awake!" The face yelled, staring at her with large forest green eyes. Pieces of brown hair hanged down and tickled Kaliyah's face.

"Well give her some room!" Someone yelled from her left.

The person above her grumbled and moved away, letting Kaliyah sit up. The first thing she noticed as her senses came back was that her arm hurt, a lot. The next thing was that the room was very bright even though it only had two bulbs hanging down from the ceiling.

"You look pretty dazed." A voice commented, she looked over and found a pair of black eyes staring at her. The girl smiled, but it looked forced.

"Tatsu, stop it you're scaring her!" A different voice scolded.

"Oh shut up Sera." The girl, Tatsu, growled.

"Guys stop it!" The girl who had been hovering over Kaliyah ordered, "You are just making this worse for her!"

Both girls mumbled an apology as the room fell into silence. She took this time to take a look at the group of girls in front of her, "Where am I?"

A girl with short black hair frowned, "We call this place The Devil's Gate."

Kaliyah almost didn't want to ask... but she needed to know, "Why?"

Tatsu smirked, "Because the Mistress is the devil, and we are now in her kingdom."

How fun, she thought bitterly, "Why am I here?"

This time a different girl spoke up, "You don't know?" Kaliyah shook her head, "You're here because of your power."

She tilted her head to the side, feeling even more confused, "But I don't have a power."

None of the girls spoke, they just stared at her like she was insane. So Kaliyah looked down to study her arm and try to figure out why it hurt. It didn't take long to figure out why her arm felt like it was on fire. Burned into her skin from the shoulder to her elbow was the word 'KK8102'. She felt like she was going to pass out.

One of the girls, the shortest one who looked about Kaliyah's age, sat down in front of her and gave a small smile, "It will be alright."

"Don't promise anything you can't keep, Anahita." The dark haired girl muttered, which earned her a glare from the two brown haired girls.

With a sigh, Tatsu spoke up again, "Well I am Tatsu, or TG9213."

The other girls seemed to get the idea, "I'm Sera, also known as SH3657."

"My name is Anahita, AT4768." The shortest girl mumbled.

The girl who first spoke to Kaliyah went next, "I'm Amia, AC0324."

Next spoke the other brown haired girl, "Naavah, NK2546."

Lastly the dark haired girl spoke, "Alvina, AP1435."

"Why... what is with the numbers?" Kaliyah questioned once Alvina was done talking.

Tatsu shrugged, "It's how they keep track of us."

"By burning numbers into our skin?"

"And letters." Sera added helpfully.

"Oh by the way," Amia said before anyone else could speak, "They also injected a serum into you that slows down your ageing process."

What? "Slows down your ageing process?"

Amia nodded, "Yeah, it's so the Mistress can keep us around longer."

She sighed, of course.

Alvina walked over and slapped Kaliyah on the back with a grin, "Well, welcome to Devil's Gate, kid, your stay will be long and painful."

Joy, she thought sarcastically.
