*creak*
Curse this stupid door. Traffic had delayed my trip back home a good hour. Light suddenly filled the dark room, revealing my roommate who was sitting on the couch.
Galena: "Your home late."
: "Define late."
Galena: "You're not just early morning late. You're four in the morning late. I was just about to leave for my shift."
: "Sorry, i guess i got caught up talking to Karrie. That and traffic was backed up again."
Galena: "Traffic is almost always backed up, but alright." She stood up and walked out the door, but before she shut the door. "There's a breakfast sandwich for you in the microwave."
My stomach growled. I haven't had anything since yesterdays pizza i shared with Adelaide. Into the kitchen and straight to the microwave i went as my stomach growled again and there sitting on a folded paper towel sat an egg and slightly melted cheese sandwich.
I grabbed the sandwich taking a bite, then reached down picking up a pop. After silencing my stomach i decided i should get at least a couple hours of sleep before heading over to the museum.
Setting an alarm on my phone for three hours later and took the box out from inside my jacket, sliding it under the couch before i flopped down, easily falling asleep.
Though it seems to happen a lot, as soon as my eyes had shut, the annoying ring of the alarm on my phone was going off.
With a groan, i struggled to sit up: "I swear, i never get enough sleep."
An unexpected voice answered me: "It may be because you have an overactive mind. That would prevent you from having a restful sleep."
My eyes widened at the realization someone else was in the room. I jumped up pulling my gun out and held it level with my unexpected visitors heart.
The intruder put her hands up: "Whoa, Shit! Calm down! I'm just here to talk."
I narrowed my eyes, my voice taking on an edge: "Who are you and what are you doing in my apartment?"
The young woman moved a lock of her blonde hair out of her face: "My name is Lenna Woodrowe and i heard you know someone who has a supply of flammable and explosive equipment."
: "Woodrowe sound familiar."
Lenna: "I'm a scientist. you may have read some of my published findings. Now do you know someone who had a supply of explosives?"
: "I might. Why do you need to find him?"
Lenna crossed her arms: "Some of my experiments are going to need some more fire power than i normally use."
Lowering my weapon , I put it back in it's original spot: "So, how did you get in here?"
Lenna jerked her thumb towards the door: "You doors broke."
: "Fair enough." I sat back down, resting my arms on my knees. "Yeah, i know someone. He's a real good friend of mine actually."
Lenna: "How would i find him?"
: "It's not that hard. You know where the Greenbelt park is?"
Lenna: "I'm familiar with it, yes."
: "He's normally standing over by the woods there. His hands in his hoodie pocket while leaning against a tree. Unless you already discussed a meeting with him, you'll just have to try and catch him when he's there."
Lenna: "Basically i'll be lucky if he's there."
I nodded: "Basically, yes. If you do manage to find him. Walk up slow, keep your head down and tell him Rose sent you. He's always ready to deal."
Lenna gave me a rather demented smile: "Thank you for the help."
She turned sharply on her heel and left the room.
To no one in particular: "You're welcome?"
A few hours later i was waiting patiently in front of the extraordinary T-rex skeleton for Finn. I had the box held in my left arm similar to how a student would carry their books.
Soon enough Finn came jogging into view: "I'm sorry i'm late, there was some last minute paperwork i had to take care of."
: "It's alright." I looked up at the collection of bones in front of us. "This is really a sight to see. It will surely bring in more visitors."
Finn nodded in agreement: "Yes, it is. The children that come through will especially like it. Is that the necklace?" He pointed at the box held tightly against my side.
I handed him the velvet covered case: "It is. Karrie said it would be fine as long as i am personally watching over it."
Finn: "Only makes sense. I take it you'll be staying then?"
I nodded: "Yep, can't let that gem leave my sight or she'll have my head for loosing it."
Finn: "You act as though you've experienced this before."
Shaking my head with a nervous laugh: "Oh no, I've been lucky enough not to be on the receiving end of her wrath, but i have been present when she went off on someone else."
Finn: "A woman's scorn is not something to mess with."
: "You got that right."
Finn led me over to where the necklace would be put on display and showed me around. A single stand angled out to the crowd. The necklace would probably stay in it's case. Only to be seen under the watch of many.
When the time came to open the doors i took my spot near the display stand putting my hands behind my back. The crowds of people came in a steady stream. Though most went over to stare up at the long since dead beast. Some did come over to gaze at the high valued, polished rock.
Held back by a thick braided red rope, the closest someone could get was four feet. They would have to admire the gem from a distance.
The hours past by quickly, the sun had set and moon was well on it's way into the night sky. Soon the last of the visitors cleaned out and many of the workers had also left, leaving Finn and I to lock up.
I picked up the case gently shutting the lid: "It's getting late. I really should be getting this back to Karrie."
Finn: "Indeed. She's probably worried about it."
As we rounded a corner, something hard came swinging into view making contact with my head. I stumbled back, tripping over my own feet, ending up on the ground. A warm liquid was sliding down my temple reaching up, flinching at my own touch I jerked my hand back to see my fingers coated in blood.
My head shot up at the sound of Finn's screams. His body seemed frozen where he stood until it was shoved aside revealing a slender woman dressed in dark blue attire and she holding something in her hand. She turned more towards me, raising the object in her hand, looking closer i realized it was a tazer.
I managed to croak out a few words out despite my splitting headache: "Who uses a tazer anymore?"
In response to my question, she pulled the trigger. The sharp hooks embedded themselves in my chest a second before the immense amount of electricity did, shocking my entire body.
My back arched as i fell back to the floor and i couldn't contain my scream. The high pitched noise echoed off the walls, continuing on down the empty halls.
What seemed like an eternity was surely only a matter of seconds, but it did finally stop. I was past the point of even attempting to stay conscious, but as my eyes sled shut i could see the woman reaching for the black box that held the precious gem.
