When I woke up, the sun was burning my eyes, turning the insides of the lids a bright red. I think I lay there for a few minutes until there seemed to be a sound like someone walking. It got louder and soon I could sense someone looking down. But still, my eyes were completely glued together.
"Dora?" His voice was worried. I smiled a little, which gave the game away. "There! You're awake!"
I groaned and turned over, daring to peek at his rusty boots. "Now I am."
"C'mon. Dora. You've been lying asleep next to the lake for hours now!" He chuckled and his feet moved subconsciously. "Guess where I ended up?"
"Where?"
"Right on the street, too. I was lying face-down!"
Now I dared to look at him. His face was a silhouette against the yellow sun; my eyes were watering up at the brightness of it. "Now that's weird, Shag. At least I was upright."
Shaggy shrugged. "Anyways, remember what day today is?"
I sat up and smiled at him. "Of course. I've been dreaming of this day for months!"
He bent down a little and whispered, "I want to go."
I stared at him, confused. "But Shaggy! You're underage!"
"I'm turning eighteen next month," that was always his reply. "If I lie, I can get in."
"But what about me? You'll be leaving me behind!"
He scoffed. "You're ten, Dora!" Then, he said, "I'll try and sneak you in too."
I blinked at him. "Thanks."
