Okay just a warning, but I've been in a kind of dark mood lately, so things will be getting pretty deep here.
The song Strawberry Fields Forever really shows how John was feeling, even if no one understood what was said. I believe that when he says tree, he means that it's his actual mind and point of view, and he's not sure if anyone can truly understand his mind, so he then wonders if his mind is hard or easy to grasp for people. Hence the high or low part.
Or you know, those lyrics may not have even had a meaning! Who knows. All I know is that I can feel a very strong connection to the song, and fun fact this was one of the first songs that really got me into the Beatles, so it's pretty sentimental to me.
