Today was the day. The day that would change everything. The day that would start a new life for me. The day of the Reaping.
I had trained all my life for this. I knew all sorts of survival skills. A long time ago, Cato and I decided to train side by side for the games, and we will always protect each other. Our plan was to win the games one year after the other and share the glory of being victors. Cato had graciously let me go first. I would volunteer and let no one stand in my way.
I decided to go with one of my best dresses today. I picked out the short white dress with the silver lining. It was my favorite one. I hopped into the shower quickly. when I was done, I put on my dress. I love the way I look in it. I matched the dress with white heels and piled my hair into a bun on the top of my head. I finished the look with my favorite white earrings. I was ready.
I walked to the town square with my head high. No one dared to get in the way. I did not flinch when they took my blood, and when it was over I headed over to where Cato had told me to meet him. I spotted him and went to where he was.
"You look stunning." he said as he spun me around. "So do you," I replied. We collaborated perfectly, and we hadn't even planned it. He was wearing a white suit. I said goodbye as I headed over to where the girls stood. Before I left he wished me luck and told me that he would be there to say goodbye at the Justice Building. I walked over just as the district's escort, Evulus Thinwhisle, took the stage. His hair this year was pink and blue, and he had on a shimmery purple suit. He did the speech that happened every year, and then the fun began.
"First, the girls," Evulus said in his capitol accent. I was about to volunteer, when that twit Annie Bakerson started to talk. She had trained as well, but she was no where near as good as me. I walked up to where she was. "I volunte..." she stopped as I punched her in the face. "I volunteer as tribute." I said as I glared at her and elbowed her in the stomach. "I'll allow it." said Evulus, as Peacekeepers came up and dragged her away. "We finally have some tension on the stage."
I strutted up the steps to the stage. "What is your name?" He asked. "Clove Kentwell" I answered withought blinking. "Well then. Clove Kentwell, the female tribute from District Two!" he exclaimed as he held up my arm.
"And now, for the male tribute." Evulus began. "Any volunteers?" he asked. Silence. Not this year. "Well then." He said. He reached into the bowl and pulled out a name. "Cato Hadley."
