"Kate your going to be late for school! Get up!" Mum shouted from downstairs.

Does she not realise there is a reason I'm not getting up. College is fucking shit. I don't think I can manage in that hell hole much longer. The head of the college is having me moved into another set of classes because he thinks it will be better for me to start fresh. Fresh start? What type of bullshit is this? I don't even know anyone from that side of the year.

"KATE SERIOUSLY, GET UP!"

Fuck, looks like I'm going to have to go. I got ready and dragged myself to school. The halls were busier than usual. It felt as if I was in a different school. Everyone seemed different. I couldn't see a familiar face anywhere. All alone, I walked to my first class, Music. Music was the only thing that kept me sane. I really did love it, and it was the only thing I felt I was truly good at. As I approached the music room, I took out my headphones and walked into the class. 25 sets of eyes were on me.

"Aaahh hello, you must be Kate Octon. This is your new music class," a friendly voice of the new music teacher, Mr Furness, "You can sit anywhere you want, if there is a free seat there. We will be starting actual work in about 10 minutes, okay?"

I nodded and went to find a spare seat. There was a group of girls sat in the corner with empty chairs around them. They looked nice enough so I headed over there to take a seat. As soon as they saw me coming over they immediately put their bags on the chair.

"Can't you see they are taken? Find somewhere else..." a girl with bright blonde hair hissed at me as she looked me up and down with disgust, "you mess."

Obviously this is another case of don't judge someone on looks. I looked around the room, and the only chair that was left was in the corner, next to a boy with messy long brown hair. I headed over there and the boy continued scribbling things down in a raggy looking notebook.

"Hi, do you mind if I sit here?" I asked.

He looked up at me and nodded with a smile. His hair was all over his face. He had the most beautiful blue eyes and his smile was contagious and I couldn't help myself smiling back.

"Ok, so can everyone listen," Mr Furness announced, "As we all should know you have start to think about your small performing piece that is to be in for next lesson. Ryan are you listening ?" The boy with the messy hair sat next to me turned around. "We have to get through everyone in the 1 hour we have. The only person who is excused from this session is Kate as she hasn't known about it until now. Please keep practicing everyone, it is tomorrow!"

Everything that was just said went straight in one ear and out the other.

"Sorry I haven't introduced myself I'm Van and I guess you're Kate then?" The boy started to talk to me.

"Yeah, I'm Kate. How come Furness called you Ryan if your name is Van?" I asked

"It really is Ryan but I hate it so much, so Van is just a nickname that I prefer and go by. So do you play?" He said looking over at a guitar sketched on the front of my book.

"Yeah a little," I said., "So what's your musical talent then Van?"

"I play guitar and sing a bit. I wouldn't call it talent but my mam and dad say I'm alright" He said as he smiled into his notebook. I giggled and then got a book out my bag as Van continued to scribble in his book.

The wailing sound from the bell startled me. Where did time go? I looked round and Van seemed to have disappeared without a trace so I packed up my things and headed out.
