Getting Ready

"I can't believe it we're going to I.A.M.A.O. in one week !" says Kip when I get back to our bedroom.

"Hey, whats that," he asks.

"It's a gift from my birth parents," I say.

"Oh," he replies.

"Did you know about this?" I question.

"Well, um, sort of."

"Did mom and dad tell you?"

"Not exactly, I sort of overheard a conversation about it."

"And you didn't tell me?"

"Well mom and dad caught me eavesdropping, so I wasn't allowed to tell you."

"I guess it wouldn't have mattered anyway, lets go to bed." I say. We both hop in bed in silence. I can't fall asleep, but I can hear Kip snoring and somehow that's soothing, and it puts me to sleep. I sleep in late the next morning so I wake up to kids yelling, babies crying, and parents talking. I walk groggily down stairs and sit in my chair at the table. I grab crab cake and some syrup and start chowing down.

"We're going shopping to day for I.A.M.A.O." Kip says.

"YES!" I reply. I.A.M.A.O. is the middle school here. The full name is Interspecial Academy for Middle-Aged Offspring. Everyone will be at the grand school year kickoff party where every level on student will bring their parents or guardians to a big feast, and you talk with old friends maybe meet new ones, and drop your school supplies in your cavern and dorm. Your cavern is like your locker but it's invisible and can only be accessed by the school staff and yourself. It can also only be accessed by magic. Today we get to go shopping for school supplies.

After breakfast I head up stairs with Kip and we get dressed for the day. After we're dressed Kip and I walk downstairs and go to the family dock. Mom is already waiting for us and She and Kip get into the water almost to their shoulders.

"Jasper don't you want to get their first ?" asks mom.

"Can I watch ?" I ask. I like watching them transform it's really cool.

"Oh, alright." she says. As soon as they submerge they become completely different people. My Mother's skin has changed to a sea foam green and she looks like a salamander on top with a fish tail on bottom. Kip is a royal blue, pretty much the same as my mother but slightly smaller. They speed off under the water and even though the stores are halfway across he world they'll make it there within a half hour. Now you might think that's incredibly fast but I can make it there in five minutes. That's the power of a dark faerie in flight.

Anyway since I have time to kill I'll go check on the larvae. Oh, right you don't know who they are well the larvae are like my next set of baby siblings. They have their own little saltwater pond to swim in until they're old enough to grow lungs. Right now there is about ten larvae, and twenty eggs. The larvae look like little versions of my grown siblings but have long gills that look kind of like antlers. I watch them swim around for a little while until I decide it's time to go. I put the hiding spell back over them and take off.

I fly higher and higher until I'm high enough to break the sound barrier. I start at a slow speed then get faster and faster until I break the sound barrier and go into a portal of traveling magic. I get to the door way sooner than I thought I would so I go through it and find myself in one hundred feet above the hustle and bustle of a magical market. I land, and since I have enough money I buy myself some ice cream. I eat my ice cream as I walk down to the bay. I walk down to the dock and sit. I wait for about ten minutes until I see two figures coming closer and closer. I can start to make out the bodies, then the heads and then my mother and brother are right in front of me.

"What took you so long ?" I ask playfully.

"Ha ha, very funny, Hey you got ice cream !" Kip exclaims.

"Yep." I reply.

"Alright you two lets get your supplies." says mom. We walk back to the market and get our uniforms, our books, and our quills and ink. Then mom says we can get one more thing for the school year. Kip gets a pack of magical playing cards where the characters come to life and battle. I get a ring that changes into a shield with the magical command Arya. It matches my sword ring. I can't wait to use them both in battle training. As we walk back down to the dock I here a BOOM and a CRASH. I look behind and see the entire market place in flames. I look at my mother and I know what she's going to do. She's going to stop the fire.

"Kip help me put out this fire, Jasper fly overhead and see if you can help any one get out" she tells us. She and Kip run down to the ocean and tell the water to put out the fire in the market. I fly overhead and see that most everyone got out but there is one dwarf stuck under a pillar. I swoop down and lift up the pillar letting her roll out from under the pillar. I then drop the pillar and pick her up to fly her out of the market. I see a baby unicorn in trouble so I dive down and grab her, after putting down the dwarf of course. I try to fly but a wood shaft to a building falls down I yell,

"ARYA." My shield expands from the ring and I put it over us so we aren't crushed. After pushing the shaft off of us I fly away from the mess and give the baby unicorn back to his mother. Then I circle around once more, the fires are all out now, and I see something lying in the middle of it all, a dark unicorn with two dragon claws lying on top tied together by an iced phoenix feather. I swoop down and pick it up. Then I fly back to my mother and Kip. I ask her,

"What is this ?"

"Oh my, Jasper, that is the sign of the Malum."
