I stood there in shock. I had spent the last couple days so worried that Haley and I would have to make this relationship long distance. We both had commitments, or hoping to be commitments, on opposite ends of the country that we didn’t want to give up, and that we didn’t want the other to give up. And now this. Now a small answer to my prayers.
We stood feet apart still, both of us in too much shock to do anything.
“LA huh?,” I said.
“Yeah,” Haley answered with a big smile on her face.
“Well then,” I say as I slowly walk towards her, “I guess that leaves me one question to ask you.”
Haley’s face suddenly takes a worried look to it.
“What,” she says softly as I wrap my hands around her waist.
“Will you move in with me?”
“Move in with you? Dylan, shouldn’t we maybe sit down and talk this over. That’s a big step,” I say, pulling him down to sit with me on the edge of the bed.
“Haley, you are going to move out there and need a place to stay, so this only makes logical sense.”
“Yes, but Dylan, I don’t want to get in your way or anything. And looking at it from a realistic perspective, we did just meet not to long ago. I don’t want to push anything along to fast,” I say while searching his eyes for some form of agreement or realization. But I can tell that he is going to keep fighting for this.
“Haley, I love you. As crazy as it is, I love you and there is no way in hell I’m going to be able to stand being apart from you, even if you are just down the block. You are all that I want right now, baby. So just do it. Take the leap, save some money, and move in with me. That’s all I ask,” he answers with now a more saddened look in his eyes.
I walk over to the big window on the other side of the room overlooking the city to clear my head. Moving in with Dylan would be a big step…a huge step to take. But wasn’t this whole relationship in a way. I knew the moment I met him that if anything developed it was bound to be complicated just because of who he was and his profession. But in this moment, looking down at the city, the couples walking on the street laughing and talking, there is nothing that I want more than to have that as well. To hell with it if it could get messy or screwed up. In the moment, it’s what I want.
“Yes,” I say quietly.
“What?” Dylan says getting up from the bed.
I turn around this time with more conviction and energy behind my answer.
“Yes, Dylan O’Brien,” I say no longer hiding the smile from my face, “yes, I will move in with you.”
