"STANLEY! STANLEY! Get down here! You're going to be late for class!"

I deliberately got up by the sound of a hooligan. In other words, my best friend of some kind, Dr. Smith. Of course he has a real name, but I felt as if he liked being remembered he was a doctor. The things he does for my mother has no pay, so the only way I believe I can repay him is by calling him Dr. Smith. Deep down, I think he knows that, too. It's this secret agreement we have.

"STANLEY!" Dr. Smith yelled yet again.

"I'm up, I'm up! Stop hollering! You know I'm not a morning person!" I hollered back at him with all my might, but that was an utterly terrible mistake because I lost my breath and had to quickly regain it, or I had to use the dreadful thing that controls me, my inhaler.

Regaining my breath, I quickly got out of bed and went towards mama's bed right down the hallway. I peeked in her room to see if she had awaken, but saw no blue eyes. Silently, I went to her and hovered my head over her chest to make sure her heart was still pumping. Hearing it loud and clear, I quickly hugged her and kissed her, and went to go get dressed, thanking God that he has let her live another day.
I put my uniform on which was my plaid skirt and a white shirt with, of course, my green tie. I let my hair flow down freely and looked towards the mirror. I was satisfied and went downstairs to meet the beautiful smell of hot coco.

"Good morning my beautiful little girl. Ready for your first day of school?" Said Dr. Smith with a wide warming grin.

"Um... yeah... another day of dungeon life my friend. Cheers for that." I said with full dissatisfaction. Sipping the warm hot coco.

"Oh come on. This is your last year of school. Shouldn't you be happy?" Dr. Smith shot back which left my mouth opened and disbelief grew in me, which caused me to answer back.

"Dr. Smith, just because it's my last year doesn't make it better. I'll have you know that now I have to work harder to get into college, oh, and pass my classes in college. So no, it doesn't get better. On the contrary, it gets harder." I told him, making him take a step back, but calmly looked at me as he looked at my father when he won an argument.

"Man, you're just like your father. You got his tie and them stormy eyes." He said with a smile.
We just stood there staring at each other with despair, remembering my father, but I let out a sigh and broke the stare-off and looked at the table that had a paper which resembled a bill. Dr. Smith continued making breakfast for mother and didn't know he had forgotten to hide the bill, which made me furious that he keeps things from me.

"Dr. Smith, what is this?" I asked with a low voice, knowing what it was but still waiting for an answer.

"Crud. You weren't supposed to see that. Ugh. Damn. Stan, I... um... we um... we, well... I... I..."

"Dr. Smith, you know I hate it when you don't get to the point, now what is it?" I sternly said.

"We owed two months of rent and Mr. Joel told me if I don't pay, he will kick us out whether a person is dying or not. I didn't want to worry you, so I got my life's savings and paid for it but that meant less... Ugh .... less medication for your mother." He said with sadness and was at the verge of crying.

"No. Dr. Smith you will still buy her medication with my college money.. and don't say no I can get a job, save, and pay for college. Okay."
I insisted and looked at him with determination.

"Okay, hurry along. You''ll miss the bus," Dr. Smith whispered sad and defeated.

I hugged him and left to school. Thinking where in earth heavens was I going to get a job.

Jotting down notes, listening to teachers, and thinking of all the homework had hurt my brain. By the time lunch came around, I was glad to have a break. I went to go get my lunch and zoned everyone out. Then headed to the library and hid my food because they didn't let people eat in there but of course that's the only rule I don't follow. I hid in the back and sat on a bay window where almost no one knew about. Well, then again, almost no one knew we had a library.

It was a usual routine I did since my mom was sick and my father had died. Everyone took pity and wouldn't really talk to me because they were afraid of me breaking down, so I isolated myself and ignored them. Now and then, guys would take interest in me to know what had happened, but then I would break their interest by only reading , and they then realized I was just an ordinary nerd with no emotions. Which, I don't really agree to that, but was distinctly notified with a note. Of course, that didn't bother me because I would only think of my mother and her life-death situation. Afraid that one day, I would have no parent.

The bell rang and I quickly left to class and the day went on.

As I walked out of school to go look for a job some place, a little boy caught my attention. His eyes were watery and his glasses ,which I presume are his, were on the floor, broken in half. Instinctively, I would have walked away, but something about him reminded me of myself.

I walked towards him and let out a loud sigh. Making him look away from the glasses to me. He looked at me with a straight face.

"You know, I have some white tape to fix that for you. Same thing happened to me, see." I opened my backpack and took out my case and showed him my glasses. He looked at me as if I were a ghost and then I guess he realized what he was doing because then he brushed off his tear and nodded.

I brushed off his glasses and applied the tape in the middle of the two pieces. I felt good about how they looked and smiled at him.

"There, good as new." I said handing him back his glasses.

"Um... thanks. I'm eternally grateful for your sticky substance and your grand idea of assembling my vision utensil." He said while smiling and putting them back on his face.

"No problem." I said and ruffled his wild black hair.

"I apologize for not fully introducing myself. My title is Kile Candle, and yours?"  Kile said and offered his hand for me to shake it. I took his hand and shook it.

"Don't you have a way with words. My name is Stanley Georgia." He looked a bit baffled by my name, but then recovered back to his neutral look.

"I have a way with my vocabulary. Thank you again for being nice and attending me with my needs" Kile said and from a neutral look it fastened to a more terrified look. I then faced the way he was looking and understood why. Putting the puzzle pieces together, the guys who had done this to his glasses weren't done and probably wanted to break him. Realizing this, I didn't want an intellectual little boy getting hurt, so I did something I wouldn't have done ever and it surprised me.

"You want me to walk you home? I do look taller than those boys," I said with a sincere smile. It's as if I granted him a wish as he nodded and smiled, looking relieved.
