The first open room she sees is of course, an old janitors closet. Annabeth trying not to look around too much in fear of seeing a spider, pulls out her phone and hands it to Claire.
"Claire this may seem crazy but I need you to do something for me. Call Percy, tell him that I need him because Grover and I were right and that there is a cyclops at the school right now. Please don't ask any questions right now I promise I will explain it all to you but just not right now I have to go out there and do something. Promise me you won't leave this closet okay?"
"Okay, I promise." Claire said with tears in her eyes.
With that Annabeth runs out of the closet putting on her Yankees hat and pulling out her new dagger. Everyone is circled around the edge of the quad except for Julia and Grover. Julia is unconscious on the ground and Grover is playing his reed pipes in hopes of slowing down the cyclops. Annabeth seeing her chance, runs and jumps aiming for his back but mid jump he senses her and turns and smacks her out of the air.
"ANNABETH!" Grover yelled.
Immediately Annabeth knew that she had a concussion but that was the least of her worries. Grover can only hold the cyclops off so long and she was the only one that can help him. She gets up slowly and reaches for her Yankees hat only to find that it is on the other side of the quad.
She starts thinking of different plans on how to approach the cyclops but none of them seem to work out. You would think that being a child of Athena you would be able to think of a good battle strategy.
Right when she finds the perfect plan of action she sees a giant black horse flying toward her with a worried looking Percy on his back. Percy jumps off Blackjack and onto the cyclops momentarily taking the attention off her and Grover.
Percy immediately starts taunting the creature trying to make it mad making time for Annabeth to drag Julia out of the way. She then runs into the fight making the cyclops focus on the three which theoretically should make it easier to defeat him. After a few minutes of this, he isn't having it anymore and starts to make his way to the now conscious Julia. Even though she was awake she may as well have been one of the stone statues from Aunty Em's garden by the way that she wouldn't move from fear. Annabeth knew that if the cyclops made it to Julia it would be that much harder for them to kill it without harming anyone else so she had to think of a plan, and quick. But as she soon came to figure out, thinking of a plan to defeat a monster with a concussion is not as easy as it seems. Just as she started toward the cyclops Percy was thrown into the wall of the main building.
"PERCY" Annabeth and Grover screamed in unison.
Annabeth now furious, ran at the cyclops with a newfound burst of anger and energy trying to protect not only her and her friends but her school too.
Percy was slowly sitting up but his arm was at a funny angle and his head was bleeding so she knew that he couldn't do much in his condition. All of the sudden the water fountains exploded and shot directly at the cyclops one eye and temporarily blinding it. Annabeth glanced at Percy with a thankful look I her eyes and delivered the final blow while Grover was finishing healing Julia.
Annabeth quickly went over to Percy and pulled out her emergency stash of ambrosia from her backpack.
"Annabeth" he croaked.
"Percy, don't talk just focus on your breathing right now" she said to him. Now that she was closer to him she saw that he was a lot worse than she thought. He had a deep cut on his side and a few other a lacerations all over his body.
"You need to get Claire. She needs you"
How could she be so stupid and forget about Claire? She ran as fast as she could, which wasn't very fast considering she had just battled a cyclops and had a concussion. She opened the closet door to see her best friend crying in the floor.
"Claire, look at me. It's over, okay? Your safe." Annabeth said while pulling her into a hug.
"Is-is Percy here?" She asked between sobs.
"Yes, of course he is. He always is. You did amazing" Annabeth said trying to comfort her.
"I just- I don't- what even happened out there?"
"Let's just say that the world you live in isn't as simple as it seems and that you have a lot to learn. Come on let's go see how Percy is doing."
