It took some convincing to talk Claire out of Grover and Annabeth having to take Julia and Percy to the hospital but after a few minutes of arguing she finally gave up. Grover was in the drivers seat of his car with Annabeth next to him in the passenger seat while Percy Claire and Julia were all crammed in the back of his little Toyota.
Annabeth was dreading giving "the talk" to Julia and Claire but someone had to and it is much better hearing it from someone you already know. As she was going through different ways to start the conversation and how it might go she heard Julia ask
"So is anyone going to tell me what the hell just happened or are we all going to act like that was a normal everyday occurrence?"
"Listen Julia we just saved yours and Claire's lives and I know you are wondering what the hell you just witnessed but a thank you would be nice too" Percy says like it is expected.
"No Percy it's fine" Annabeth says.
"Look I know that you just witnessed the most terrifying thing in your life but I hate to say it but you will get used to it. Have either of you heard of the Greek gods?"
"Um Annabeth I asked what just happened not for a history lesson" snaps Julia
Annabeth doesn't even look back to know that Percy of fuming right about now and hears him say to Julia
"Well if you would have answered her question you would know that she is about to. So stop being rude and just listen to her for once. "
Instead of Julia answering Claire answers "Um, yeah I have. Like Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Hades and all them right?"
"Exactly, so you know how most stories talk about how the gods will travel to the mortal world and most of the time trick an unsuspecting mortal to have a child with them?" Annabeth asks. They both nod their heads.
"Well those stories are all true. The gods are all still alive and well. They move every few millennium to a new country and right now they are in America. Well the Empire State Building to be exact. I know it is a lot to take in but you have to trust me on this." Annabeth says in a calm voice.
"Those who are children of a mortal and a god are called demigods. Just like Percy and I, you two are also demigods. I am the daughter of Athena and Percy is the son on Poseidon. We won't know for sure who your godly parent is until they claim you which will be sometime in the next few hours but we have some ideas."
"Wait so you are telling me that I am a demigod? Like a child of an ancient God just like in the movies and stories" Claire questions.
Just then Julia laughs and not like a little chuckle, a full on hysterical, out of breath, laugh.
"I can't believe that you actually believe this!" She laughs
Grover who has been quiet this whole time seems to have had enough. He pulls over on the road that they were on a good gets out.
"Grover, what are you doing?" Percy asks.
"Julia obviously isn't going to take Annabeth seriously so I am just going to give her some proof." He states with a smug look on his face.
He gets out of the car and motions for everyone else to do the same. They are on a deserted road only about 15 minutes away from camp so no body else is there. As they all start to get out of the car Grover starts to unbutton his pants.
Annabeth and Percy both start laughing finally catching on to what is about to happen while the color drains out of Claire and Julia's faces.
As Grover steps out of his pants the girls can't help but stare at where his legs should be but are instead replaced with the legs of a goat.
"I-I don't understand" Claire stammers.
"Well as you can see I am half goat and half human or a saytr as we prefer to be called." Grover states.
"But that's not possible" Julia says.
"Oh but it is" Percy says clearly amused and pulls a pen out of his pocket. "See this pen?" he asks the girls.
They both look confused but nod anyway. Julia opens her mouth to say something but decides against it after seeing how serious he is.
He then uncaps it and it grows into a full sized sword.
"This" he says "is my sword Riptide. It looks like an ordinary pen but when I take the cap off it becomes a sword and I can also never lose it. For instance, if I lose it in battle it will just reappear a few minutes later in my pocket. Watch." He says and then proceeds to throw it as hard as he can into the woods and tells Grover that they should probably get back to camp because it is getting dark.
After a few minutes of driving in silence Percy says "See guys. We weren't lying" as he holds up Riptide in pen form.
