A soulmate is the one person in the world whom you are destined to live out the rest of your life with. A soulmate is the one person who understands you completely. A soulmate is the one person who you feel complete with. A soulmate is the one person who warms your heart.

Kurt and Blaine live in an alternate universe where meeting your soulmate is when your life really begins. When you meet, your heart and chest glow a dull red light to show you that you have found them. The longer you go without acknowledging the light, the brighter it glows until it's impossible not to notice.

The light glows every time you make skin-to-skin contact with your soulmate, like holding hands or accidentally brushing arms. Unfortunately for those oblivious to the light, it is against the law to tell two people that they are each other's soulmates, or point out the light for them, because everyone deserves the chance to find their own soulmates.

Kurt and Blaine have been best friends for two years and have only made contact a few times, but each time their hearts glow brighter and brighter. When they first met, Blaine grabbed Kurt's hand and ran down the stairs with him, but he turned away from him before they could realize the glow. Both were too caught up in the moment and their own heads to realize the dull glow surrounding them, and have therefore determined that they are not and will never be soulmates. Blaine desperately wants to be more to Kurt than just his best friend, but Kurt refuses to date anyone before he meets his soulmate, blind to the boy standing right in front of his eyes.
