remember that night we ran away?

you said, "let's take your car and disappear into the darkness."

i'll never forget that night.

sneaking out was half the fun. wood creaked under my steps, and i jumped my own fence on my mission to rendezvous
with you.

we drove miles and miles through the city lights.
windows down, music blaring.
we laughed and sung and screamed and shouted.
just us.

we sat there for hours in a parking lot
in front of lit up trees, a perfect view.
we climbed in the back and held each other close.

but then
then the lavender died.

you moved in so close, i could feel your breath on my skin.
i froze, thinking "this is it.
this is it. this is the kiss."

when you didn't move, i moved in.
so close that when you spoke, i felt your lips brush up on my own.

"Don't do it."

Don't do it, you said.
who knew words could set fires to souls.
