"Ahg!!"

Willa heard Philby's yell from the hall closet, where he was pulling out Christmas ornaments.

Willa took a deep breath and inhaled the musty, spicy smell that always seemed to cling to the decorations. She lifted a long red garland, pulled it out of the box, and looked around her small living room to see where she wanted to put it.

Philby tromped into the room.

"Why do you have all the boxes shoved so far back?" He scowled. "I feel like I just fought a war getting this out. "

Willa laughed.

"They take up a lot of space, and I only use them once a year, so what's the point of putting them somewhere easy to get, only to have them take up all accessible space?"

"That's fine logic, but I couldn't help but notice you sent me to get them, not try to get them yourself." Philby grumbled.

"Oh come on, I was just trying to get started on the decorating, I'll do it next time if it's so hard" Willa rolled her eyes laughing, batting him with a couch pillow.

"Hey!" Philby ducked, swatting her back.

"Hey, hey, we don't have time for this!" She exclaimed calming down. "We have to decorate."

Willa took decorating very seriously, there was something about the holidays that just warmed her heart. Stringing the lights, putting up a wreath and Nativity scene, hanging up every beautiful ornament on the branches was so special to her. Having Philby here to do it with her for the first time as her boyfriend made it so much more so.

"Here," she said pulling out her pack of white twinkle lights. "Let's start with putting the lights on the tree!"

"Okay"

Philby took the lights from her hand,

"Oh, do you want to do it?" She asked surprised.

"Yeah, I can do it." Philby said with his usual confidence.

Philby started to unwind the long strand and proceeded start from the bottom, burying his arms deep in the branches.

Willa tilted her head, and observed Philby at work, beginning to be unsure if he knew at all what he was doing.

She kept watching as he continued to wrap lights around the trunk of the tree and then started to pull them out, lacing them through the branches. He was making mess, and the lights that were not being tied to the tree were getting bunched in knots and tangled around his arms.

He extracted himself, still entwined in the lights and moved to the next tier of the tree. He was leaning back, looking at his work, she bit her lip to keep from laughing when the tree started tilting his direction as he leaned further.

"Okay, okay Philby. Stop."

He paused in his work and turned back to look at her.

Gosh, he looked adorable.

"You are very bad at this."

"What? What do you mean?" Philby asked perplexed.

"You are very bad, like, to the point where I'm not sure if you realize you are wrapped in the lights, not just the tree. Let me help you!"

"Willa, it's fine, I've got it!'

"Dell, you don't have it, this is not normal" she gestured to the tangle of lights. "Have you ever done this before?"

"Well, no, but it's quite simple to figure out, it's not something you need a lot of practice with." He stated in his professor voice.

"Apparently it is." Willa fired back. "Here, let me help you."

She knelt beside him and started to coax the knots out of the lights and untangle them from his arms and chest.

"Well, how are you supposed to put up Christmas lights?" Philby said as she continue to untangle him.

"Well, typically, you don't wrap them around the trunk of the tree..."

"You said it wanted it to glow, I thought that made sense."

Willa bit her lip, trying not to smile,

"You're my favorite."

"What?" Philby looked confused "What does that have to do with anything we were talking about?"

"Don't worry about it. I'm honestly just surprised I found something that the great Dell Philby is bad at." She smiled.

Philby frowned.

"Define 'bad at' because I'm not sure if that's exactly what was happening..."

"Oh please," Willa rolled her eyes. "You'll get over it."

"Maybe, I do happen know something I'm really good at though," He said softly leaning in so they were breathing the same air.

"Oh yeah?" She whispered.

"Programming the lights so they blink at the most aesthetically pleasing rate." He said pulling away from her.

"Really? That's it."

"Yep"

"Oh gosh, you are probably good at that." She said exasperated.

Philby laughed, pulling her close.

"I'm also kind of good at this too, but like with most things, only if you're involved."

He leaned down and kissed her while the Christmas lights twinkled at their feet.
