Poorshadowing

Several hours later, and you all were finished working.

It turned out that the sheet wasn't just one house, but the WHOLE TOWN.

Wendy had sustained no injustice, but the same couldn't be said for the rest of us. Erza had been blasted by a rouge water pipe, and was now wearing a spare shirt you had, a loose black short sleeve. Lucy had dropped from a roof, but had luckily landed on something else, and only hurt her arm.

You, unfortunately, had been that something. Your back had taken most of the punishment, but Wendy had a fun time resetting it. You had spoken your sentiments on having brought a healer for the other jobs, and had kindly asked that Lucy be taken care of first.

Alright, maybe you had used some more.. descriptive words. But you had covered Wendy's ears beforehand.

But aside from that, you had the worst luck that day. It seemed that everything that could have gone wrong Did go wrong. Only Erza seemed unaffected by the curse, after being hosed down. The indignity of a wet shirt was all she suffered.

That evening, in a house provided by the town, the others had a stern talking to you about what you had dragged them into.

"This was the easy job?" Lucy says, holding her arm. While Wendy had seen to it, it was still going to twinge. As for you, you were leaning on the wall. While she landed on you, you had tried to catch her, or at least brake her fall. While she was only sprained, you had practically thrown your shoulder. You could understand, but you were chewing your tongue to keep your attitude in check.

"I'm sorry, but I misunderstood the request. I thought it said one house, not one TOWN! The pay was raised recently, and for good reason." You say, biting back an argument and keeping your fist from clenching.

Wendy looked back and forth, trying to play referee. "Hey, the good thing is we finished. We can leave tomorrow, and put this all behind us."

Erza, who had ditched the borrowed clothing as soon as you had returned, threw her cards with Wendy. "Yes, lets just take a minute to relax. (M/n), which job are we doing next?"

You take a breath, and unwind a ball that had formed in your chest. "The dark guild was next up, as it's the farthest from the guild." You reply, calm returning to you.

Lucy, who seemed to have trouble keeping her eyes open, responded. "Right now, I just want to rest. I'm exhausted."

That was where you noticed a problem. The room provided was almost a hotel. It had a shower, two separate bedrooms, as well as the couch, which folded out into a small bed.

You push off the wall, and stretch one arm. "If you don't mind, I'm going to make an invoice of the job. The amount we repaired, injuries, etc. A log for future reflection. I'll be up another hour, maybe two. You guys can take your pick of the beds in the meantime."

As you walk to the dining area table, they seem to figure out what you mean. Three beds, four people. One person had set aside. Simple subtraction.

Wendy seems to be the quickest this time. "You don't have to do that, (M/n). I'll take the floor."

You smile back, and some pain from your shoulder slithers into it, but your message gets across. "Wendy, I couldn't do that to you. And I was serious about that invoice. By the time I'm done, it will be late. Please, I'll sleep on the train tomorrow. Go ahead." You try for a dismissive hand gesture, but you almost yelp from the pain.

They clearly see that, but realize there was no point in arguing. As you sit down, they start to go into the rooms, changing into sleeping wear.

Meanwhile, you brought out a notebook, and started to note the job and it's complexities. You noted the payment, how it was split, as well as expenses. You also note each catastrophe, and those caught in it. You notice only Wendy was completely unharmed, and Erza was after the pipe attack. Curious.
