I still can't believe I'm Tyler's little sister. Brendon and Sarah had pulled some old photos from Tyler's mom and gotten them to show me. Every ultrasound of me, and then a newborn picture of me in the hospital was all that she had, other than the one 6 month old picture Sarah had given Brendon for Christmas.
It turns out there were a lot of complications with me being born and I ended up causing my mom to lose too much blood, which made her pass out. My dad was in the lobby, thanks to the doctors who had asked him to leave the room. One of the nurses had three of her own children. She lost her fourth and never told her husband, her stomach still grew. She took the opportunity with me and managed to get away with it. This happens to be the one and only Hannah Lancaster, the woman I've believed to be my mother up until now. My fake dad, the one who had no idea that I wasn't actually his daughter, raised me like one of his own. I mean, up until I was three and we thought he had died. It turns out Tyler and Pete had both pushed Brendon and Sarah to adopt. They let them choose the kid they wanted, hoping it would be me. Tyler had found out about me two and a half years ago. He was livid to know that all of those years I had been beaten and then placed in an adoption center, and never really felt the love of a family. Even though Tyler, Zack, Jay, and Madison are all considerably older than me, they all had already tried to help me through everything once I knew about the whole me being born thing. Kelly and Chris, my parents as I now know, just thought they had lost the baby at birth. The doctors had told them that because the baby had disappeared, so what are you supposed to do in that situation? Make the parents angry or frantic? No. You simply tell them what you can, your baby is gone. They can take that as 'your baby is dead, I'm very sorry', which my parents did.
Brendon and Sarah have been especially helpful in getting legal documents changed. My parents have had to sign the documents and Sarah's had to change her last name to Urie on them. For the past four days I've been holed up in my room. I've never been like this before, but I don't want to interact with anyone. Tonight is the New Years Eve party Brendon and Sarah throw every year. All I know is I have a dress and I don't even want to go. A light knock sounded at the door.
"Riley?"
It sounded like Tyler.
"Tyler?"
"Yeah. Josh is here too."
I slowly got up from under my blanket and unlocked the door, locking it back after they got inside.
"You okay kiddo?," Josh said, hugging me.
"Sure," I said, the dull tone unconvincing.
"Tell me what's wrong, Riley," Tyler said, his eyes pushing for information as he scanned my face for any emotion at all.
"That's just it Tyler! I don't know what's wrong!," I said, breaking into tears.
He pulled me into him. His scent calmed me, but with tears still falling, I wrapped my arms around him. Josh gently rubbed my back.
"Where's Jenna?"
"Downstairs with Sarah, helping decorate for the party tonight," Tyler replied, his eyes falling on the dress that hung on my closet door.
"I'm okay now, Ty..."
"Mentally you aren't, trust me. Rest. Either one of us or Brendon will be back to check on you, okay?"
I nodded. I crawled underneath the comforter and smiled slightly when he softly kissed my forehead.
Brendon came to check on me about three and a half hours later. He laid down next to me and hugged me tightly.
"It's good to see you again Ri," he whispered into my hair.
"It's good to see you too, Bren."
A smile tugged at his lips as he heard his nickname.
