“Push Neave! Push!! I can see the head Neave! They are coming! Push a little bit harder honey.”

The doctor voice rings in my ear, telling me to push. My mother was rubbing my head, wiping away my sweat, I stopped pushing to catch my breath but the doctor yelled to me “Don’t stop pushing Neave!” making me panic and continue to push even harder. My mom helped me with the breathing, I followed her instruction and give the last push.

“It’s a boy Neave!” the doctor said with a joyful tone. I smile, still catching my breath. “Good job baby.” My mom whisper in my ear. I nod and the doctor told me to push again as another baby is coming out. Again I repeat the same thing, it’s like déjà vu, even thou it happen second ago.

“Push Neave! Push!! He’s almost out.” The doctor said, I could sense a smile on his face when he said that the baby is almost out. Another few hard push, came out another crying baby. My head immediately falls on the pillow as I catch my breath. “It’s over baby. You did an excellent job.” My mother whisper, giving me a kiss on the forehead.

“I was right, both of them are boys. Here’s your prince Neave.” The doctor and nurse came to my side, handing gently me, my precious new born baby. They quiet down as soon as they were in my arm. They were beautiful, magical and just beyond words. All the pain, 9 months carrying them in me, it was all worth it. This is the most wonderful Christmas gift. 2 most handsome prince.

Neil and Noel William Patrick.

3 Years later

“Neave! Don’t forget Neil’s blanket!”

My grandma hurry run towards me at the driveway. I turn around from fixing the boys seat and found her catching her breath from running. I laughed at her and thanked her for the blanket. She playfully roll her eyes off me and told me to move away as she wanted to give her grandchild a kiss.

“Good luck back there honey. We’re going to miss you.” My grandpa said as he gives me a hugged. I’m leaving to Ireland today, back home where Neil and Noel should be.

Months after I’ve give birth to Neil and Noel, I decided to follow my grandparents back to New York where I can attend classes and earn living for myself and my twin boys. I’ve attended art, interior design, computer design, event management and cooking classes. For 2 and a half year, I’ve worked with an interior designer company where we helped newlywed couple, old couple or anyone that needed professional help with their new home. I was doing well, I could buy my own car, my own house and live happily with my boys but I wanted them to grow up and live at the country they were born into. Mullingar, Ireland.

“Take good care of the boys! And I wish you luck Neave!” My grandma said pulling me into a hug.

“Thank you. And I will miss the both of you very much! The boys will too! Especially you delicious pie grandma!” I held her hand and squeeze it.

“Well, come and visit us often, I’ll bake lots and lots of pie for them!” My grandma said excitedly.

“You’re going to make the boys fat!” My grandpa joked. My grandma pretend to sulk and we laughed, which she later then join along. “Well you better leave now, or you’ll miss your flight!” grandpa said. I hugged and kissed them goodbye. As I got into the driver seat, the boys wave goodbye to their great-grandparents and I drove away to the airport.

                                                                                         ***

“Hey mom!” I ran to give her a hug, “I miss you!” I said giving her a peck on the cheek.

“I miss you too baby. How are you?” my mom asked.

“I’m fine, a bit tired. Hey daddy!” I said excitedly as he open his arm, ready to wrap his arm around me. I asked where is James, my brother and mom told me he wasn’t in town. He was away for work. We left the airport and drove back home, mom had prepared a room for the boys and my room. When we’ve arrive home, dad volunteer to help with the boys while I spend time with my mother. I thanked my dad and join my mother, preparing dinner.

“Need help?” I ask as I enter the kitchen.

My mom turn her head and smile at me. She asked me to cut some vegetable and I joked around saying that the boys wouldn’t eat it. Mom asked how thing are going with grandma and grandpa, we chatted for a while. Mom was trying to ask me something but she keep pushing it away with another random question.

“What is it mom?” I ask, pulling her to me. She sigh and told me it was nothing. Knowing my mom, there’s something and I know what it was.

“Maura called?” I let her go. She nodded. This time I sigh. “She’s coming?” I ask again. My mom shook her head and went to the drawer, taking out spoons. “What did she say?” I ask her.

“She wanted to see the boys. If you wouldn’t let her, she would tell him.” My mom said with a disappoint tone. I walk to her and gave her a long hug. “Did you tell her I was coming back?” I ask her as I pull away. She shook her head and walked out from the kitchen to the dining table where my dad and the boys are waiting for us. “Is he here?” I ask and my mom shook her head again. “She said he’s on tour and only will be coming home next weekend.”

I nodded and sat down. My mom looked disappointed as if she had disappoint me. I smile and grab her hand, squeeze it and her face soften up a bit and smile back at me. “Could you call her later and inform her that the boys will be visiting her tomorrow. Tell her to prepare a pie. The boys love pies. Especially apple pie.” I said. My mom smile happily and nodded to me. I turn to my dad as he was too smiling at me, I guess they’ve been living like this all the while. Feeling guilty to me, to him and to his family.

“You should tell him, he deserve to know.” My grandma’s voice rings in my head. That was what she told me last night as we tug the boys to sleep. “Even if you think he doesn’t need to know, the boys need to know who their father is. Give it a chance Neave, there are probability thing turn out good, not as you think it will.”

Maybe.
