TYLERS POV
I must've passed out in my chair because when I was woken up by a random checker piece being thrown at me by one of the other guests, I looked out the window and the rain was gone, and the streetlights were lit. I rubbed my eyes and padded back to my room. When I slid in all the lights were off and Josh was on his bed backed up to the wall with his hands over his face. I didn't bother to say anything first, I don't like when people talk to me when I'm stressing out so why would I do it to others?
" hey ty" he finally said
" hi" I croaked. I haven't spoke since this morning I'm assuming this is why my voice is always so creaky and rough. Josh stayed silent for a bit.
"where've you been all day bud?" He asked. Then I remembered everything from this morning the papers, my papers, the talk secret with his shrink. I became irritated. Plus he always knows where I'm at when it rains.
" I've been where I always am when it rains. In the chair. In the main room." I replied
" is anything going on with you, like is something bugging you?" He asked .
I plopped down onto my bed, looked at the desk and then looked back at Josh before laying down.
" when did you look at them" I stated blankly staring at the ceiling.
" this morning before you woke up"
"Why."
" I'm not sure they were there and I just read them. I'm sorry"
" just please put them back in order next time." I sighed and twisted so that I was now facing the wall.
" Ty " He said hesitantly.
" Josh" I say back.
"I- I'm uh. I'm leaving tomorrow"
I stayed silent.
That's it. That's what he had to tell me, that he was leaving tomorrow. That must've been what he was discussing with his shrink earlier. The only person I've warmed up to here is now leaving me. How long has he actually known about this before he finally decided to tell me?
"Tyler?" He asked
"Oh good for you josh..." I say back kinda trailing off.
" I'm sorry" he says
" no it's fine." I whimper out. God I'm so weak.
" are you sure?" He asks.
I sat there for a minute, I felt something wet slide down over my nose and down my cheek.
" definantly not, but hey at least you're doing good. I happy for you josh, it just sucks. You're the only person I've warmed up too here and I'm not good with new people, ya know." I say back quietly
" come with me" he states.
Go with him? That would be nice, really nice actually. I could get away from this hell. But I'm not 18 not for at least another month I think. I can't remember what day it is today.
" I can't, I'm not 18 yet so I can't sign myself out and I haven't made progress since I've been here, they won't let me go." I sighed out.
" then sneak out. I know you want to leave just as much as me and we both need and depend on each other " he's pushing me, he's really trying to persuade me here into doing this. And it's working.
" how?" I asked
" Well, as dumb as it sounds they always leave the back doors unlocked, you could sneak out that way, or after they come and get me to leave you could break the window with that chair and leave through the window" he says back.
"Alright." I said getting up and heading towards the desk gathering all of the papers from various drawers, wether they be songs or feelings, or songs about my feelings I was folding them and putting them in my pockets swiftly.
I then turns and went and sat back on my bed.
" I'll leave tonight and when they come to get you tomorrow morning and they ask about me, just say I'm using the restroom or something" I say after a little.
" okay buddy. I'll meet you at that Gas station a few blocks away" he replies. We waited till everything was silent and till all the nurses and guards were asleep. It wouldn't be long honestly hey always go to sleep way early. Everything grew silent within an hour. Josh and I didn't speak only pondering about what was happening. Once I thought that it was safe enough I got up put on my shoes and rested my hand on the door handle then looked over at Josh. " till tomorrow friend" I Said before twisting the door and swiftly sneaking out into the dimly lit cold hallways. I moved quickly and quietly, I headed towards the more vacant part of the facility, twisting and turning down various hallways searching for an exit. Footsteps. I hear footsteps I look back and see a flashlight shining on the walls of a connected hallway. I look to find any door that may be open. They're coming closer and getting louder each second. I slip into a dark cell an duck down to avoid being seen. The flashlight bounced off the walls and the footsteps echoed throughout the hall, keys clanked against each other and the whistling of an old tune came and passed. I feel like I'm in a horror movie. My anxiety is off the charts at this moment. I slip out of the room when I find it clear and dart towards the nearest " EXIT" sign. Oh my my that glowing red sign has never made me happier. I reach the door and glide out of it with no hesitation. Im free. I'm out. I feel as if I'm walking on water right now. I haven't felt this good since the first time I played a piano. The air was cold for certain but it didn't matter. Nothing did at this moment. The only thing I was focused on at this point was getting to that gas station and not getting caught and taken back to that terrible place. I ran and ran and ran until I found the spoken about gas station and waited patiently behind the building. I can't believe I'm finally free, and I cannot wait to share this feeling with Josh in a few hours. I'm free.
