"Daniel are you kidding me right now?" I hear my mum call from the door, looking at me in an exasperated expression.

"I'm sorry mum, I'm just really nervous," I say, scratching the back of my neck.

My mum looked absolutely beautiful wearing a long, floor length dress that was a stunning shade of maroon. Her hair was in a slightly messy ballet bun and her make up was amazing. It was a rare occasion she would get dressed up like this, and today has a very special thing going on.

"Oh baby, don't you worry your pretty little head. You know Phil loves you with all his heart. If he didn't, he wouldn't be waiting for you at that alter right now," she says, walking up to me, adjusting my fringe and fixing my tie.

"You're right mum," I said looking down at her, smiling at her and gave her a big hug.

"Dan, it's time. Are you ready?" James pops his head into the room asking. I nod and my mum walks out of the room to take her seat with the rest of mine and Phil's family.

I haven't seen him all day and I hope he's as excited as I am. God, the day he asked me was literally one of the most beautiful days of my life. It was Christmas.

"Alright everyone, gather around!" Phil's mum calls as we begin the white elephant, gift swap/secret santa-ish/I literally don't even know you pick a gift and it can get stolen by someone else three times.

Phil and I take a seat on one of the couches next to his cousins. Phil's aunt passes around a hat with numbers in it and everyone take a number from it.

"What'd ya get?" He asks leaning close to me.

"19. You?"

"25."

I smile at Phil, looking at his eyes. Those beautiful eyes that I thought of before I even knew who he was. The eyes that saw and knew every bit of my dark story. The eyes that I fell in love with. Phil leans in and gave me a quick kiss on the cheek before standing up and helping his cousin grab he gifts everyone brought from under the tree to the middle of the room.

The game goes slowly, some people taking the gifts of others as you can in this festive game.

"19?" I hear being called.

"That's me," I say and smile, standing up.

I walk over to the mount of gifts, looking for one of the wrapped boxes until I find one I like. It was literally a paper bag with tape on it, but I grabbed it anyways.

"Never judge a book by it's cover," I say smiling as Phil's family laughs and I open it.

"A candle. Good Lord Phil will literally use this more than I will," I laugh and sit back down again.

A few more of Phil's family go before his number is called. Phil walks up with a huge smile on his face, grabbing a small bag. I see Phil's mum and dad smiling as he opens the gift. He pulls out a small black box and I scrunch my eyebrows in confusion. Phil walks over to me and grabs my hands, pulling me up to my feet.

"Dan, where do I begin?" Phil says. "I met you in junior year and here we are, five year later. Everything you did made me fall a little more for you. I know you haven't always had the life you wanted, but I'm hoping I can give you the one you've always deserved. You're my best friend, my bear, my source of happiness, and the absolute love of my life. I can't even go as far as thinking how my life would be if I had never met you and helped you from Jessie that day we met. So I'm asking you with every fiber of my very being," Phil says and gets down on one knee, opening the box and grabbing my left hand, "Will you marry me?"
