What did I ask for?
Not high mountains
Nor rivers of gold.
Neither shimmering silk,
And not even honey and milk.
What did I ask for?
Was it the fair face,
Or the delightful grace.
If not, then the happy fate?
That I am greatful for,
And yet ask for more?
What did I ask for?
That's taking all this time,
To reach, my waiting hands?
I don't find it fair,
But who am I to complain.
All I asked for was a friend,
But I end up in disdain.
Cause, who should I trust?
Who will value my words,
More than plain ol' dust?
My happiness,
With whom do I share?
In my sorrow,
Who would care?
And all this time,
A friend is what
I asked for.
