Melanie had in her hand the photograph that she had wrenched from the frame and ripped it in two. If her Gramps was right, Beth was where it had started and no doubt her child was the one causing the murders.
It was difficult reading the other diary entries, her Gramps had tried in vain to save the young woman’s life.
My heart breaks, Beth gave in. She truly believed she could fight, that fight cost her and now I’m hearing horrible things. Murders – the murdering of innocent children and I know it’s her – that thing has leeched her soul and is destroying everything that is good. I should have destroyed it at the beginning, instead of ignoring all the signs. I’m to blame. I’m so sorry.
What it must have cost her Gramps to shoulder that kind of guilt, it made her feel ashamed to know that she had dismissed her Grandmothers warnings.
Mel placed the torn photograph into a small bowl of salt, once covered she took a piece of white lace and placed it on top of the salt. Taking a deep breath she recited;
‘I bind you child of darkness. I bind you.’
Mel took the photograph in one hand the piece of white ribbon in the other.
‘I bind you child of darkness. I bind you.’
She wrapped the ribbon around the photograph as she recited the binding.
‘I bind you child of darkness. I bind you.’
With each word she wrapped the photograph in the white ribbon until it was entirely covered. She placed it in the salt bowl and gathered her things. The binding would only last so long, she had to get to the demon now before it slipped through her fingers.
Her stomach jolted at what she was about to face, the silver ball pulsated again but with it warmth. Warmth that spread throughout her body. Mel smiled, her Gramps was with her and together they would do this.
