G's School For Magic

Mission: Enroll

"Mama... why do you have to leave?" A five year old asked her mother.

"Hm? Well you see Lae, after mommy and daddy learned this magic, we have certain... things... we have to do." The mother tried to explain to her child.

"So you can't come home?" She asked, the mother grabbed the child's hands.

"Not for now... but one day we'll definitely come get you, or you'll get us." The mother smiled making the upset child smile too.

"Then when I get older can I go to school with mama and papa too?" The child asked.

"Of course." The mother smiled, a loud bang in the background cut into the flashback.

  I woke up shaken, I looked around to see if anything had fallen. Slowly getting up, I took a small bat in my hand and walked around. There was nothing in the small hut I called home, just a picture frame that fell. I dashed back into my room excited, today was the day. Today was definitely the day I was getting into that school!

"Bye bye Talia!" I waved good-bye to my neighbor, ever since I was little she would look after me.

"Good luck Lae." She smiled and waved back at me. I began running to town, my large backpack couldn't slow down my excited feet.

"Little Miss Larkin, you finally got in?" The mechanic smiled at me.

"Yup. I'm excited to see what I'll learn there." He opened the gate upon me showing my acceptance pass.

"Well then good luck and don't forget to buckle up." The mechanic walked to his station, because of the way the people in the town lived, our transportation was like a roller coaster. There weren't any cars or trucks, just motorbikes and this bullet train coaster. Whenever we needed to leave, it wouldn't take long to get there.

"Welcome new student." A voice welcomed me as the coaster slowed down to stop at the entrance.

"I take it you must be Lae Larkin. You look just like your mother." A guy grinned upon the coaster stopping.

"Hi. Do you know my mom?" I asked walking up to the guy, he seemed nice.

"Of course I knew her, I taught her. Principal Medley." He held out his hand to me.

"Lae Larkin." I made sure to shake his hand with a good grip.

"Why don't I just get that Orion to show you around." Principal Medley said, the name Orion sounded familiar.

"Oh Orion! Like the stars!" I smiled and the principals face dropped.

"No. I'm not a star." A tall kid walked behind the principal. His hair was dark brown but his eyes were a light shade of blue.

"My bad. I'm Lae, Lae Larkin." I introduced myself. I've never had a friend near my age so I wanted to be as nice as possible. He looked at me, it went quiet for a moment.

"We're neighbors. Give me your bag." He took my backpack away from me and walked towards a large building, it must have been the school!

"Enjoy your stay Ms. Larkin!" The principal grinned, he seemed a bit too happy towards me.

"I will!" I waved back to him following after Orion.

"You won't." He said quietly.

"Hm? What are you talking about?" I asked, the school and principal seemed nice.

"It's nothing. Just mumbling to myself." He said. We walked up three flights of stairs, and headed towards a corner at the end of the hall.

"These are our rooms. End of the right hall, across from each other. If you need anything just ask." His voice was a little cold, but he wasn't saying anything mean.

"Then... can we be friends?" I smiled at him, I could trust him.

"If that's what you want," He shrugged his shoulders giving me back my backpack. "Put your stuff in there then come get me, I'll show you around." He told me.

I turned the doors knob and walked into and almost empty room. There was a clean white bed, a wooden closet, and a small desk. There was also a door on the top of the ceiling, but no matter what I did it didn't open. I tossed my back pack onto my bed, and walked across the hall.

"I'm ready Orion," I knocked on his door but there was no answer. "Orion?" I called and I twisted the door knob. I slowly opened the door and he stood in front of me.

"What?" He looked down at me, his face was a bit scary.

"N-nothing. I-I'm ready now." I attempted to smile at him, we were going to be friends so I didn't want to be scared of him.

"Oh. Okay." He looked away, it felt weird to be around Orion. He was like a cool person, someone who doesn't smile, I'll just put my meeting parents goal aside for now. My priority for now is to get Orion to smile.

"That's the cafeteria. Across the hall is the student kitchen. You can eat there, or bake god knows what in the student kitchen." Orion took me to the first floor. On our campus there were four area's we could go to, the dorms, the school, the principals, or the garden. The dorms had three floors, the school had four, the principals office was a tower, and the garden was outside.

"Orion, are you good at magic?" I asked, I wondered what I could do to make him smile.

"Not really. This school's really bad with self-study now. There's barely any excelling kids." Orion spoke, we walked out back towards the garden.

"Excelling kids?" I was curious over the term.

"Kids who earn their right to travel. They learn get tested and off they go into dangerous missions." Orion explained, he grabbed my hand and led me across a pond. It shimmered with every step we took together.

"Why would anyone want to do that?" I asked, being in danger didn't sound too fun.

"That's what this school is for. We learn magic and go off to do crazy things with it. Your parent never told you?" He sounded a bit irritated.

"My parents... they were magicians. I haven't seen them for ten years." I told him, I knew magic was dangerous but they put their lives in danger too?

"Oh. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to." He apologized.

"No, its nothing to be sorry about. That reminds me... my birthdays coming up soon, pretty exciting right?" I smiled thinking about it.

"Is it really?" He looked a bit down, we sat by the gates. Behind the gates was a larger part of the garden.

"Yeah, never celebrated your birthday?" I asked.

"Not really. It's never come across to me that important." He stretched where we sat.

"So when's your birthday?" I asked, luckily I felt like it was close.

"May 9th." He answered, I grabbed his hands and a giant smile grew on my face.

"That's perfect! That's my birthday too!" It was surprising, I just found out my new friend also had the same birthday as me.

"It is?" He looked down at our touching hands.

"Yup. Orion... would it be okay?" I asked, my idea was sure to make him smile.

"I-is what okay?" He pulled his hands away from mine.

"A party! Let's have a party Orion! I've always wanted to celebrate my birthday with someone else! Can we please?" I begged. It was my first time having a friend, I couldn't help myself.

"If you want to," He looked away from me and stood up. "Let's go, we haven't seen the school yet." He held out his hand for me again.

"Okay." I grabbed onto his hand and we crossed the pond.
