"Orion. Orion?" I knocked on his door early May ninth.
"What is it Lae? You realize it's like seven in the morning and there's no school right?" He looked extremely tired.
"I know. I just had to give this to you so you could sleep. 'Kay?" I grinned and handed him the piece of paper. It had the time of our party and where it would be held, even though it was just my room.
"Okay." He looked confused so I ran off, he most likely fell asleep quickly after I ran. My heart burned with excitement as I ran through the quiet dorms hoping I wasn't too loud.
"You're up early Miss Larkin?" Principal Medley greeted me from behind.
"Yup. Good morning, I'm busy today." I changed my shoes so I could walk through the school.
"I can see that. Birthday business?" He grinned at me.
"Yeah... how'd you know?" I stopped at the door hearing him, something felt a bit off.
"You're one of my students, of course I'll know when your birthdays are." The principal took a cellphone out. "Oh. Looks like I have to go, goodbye." He took a folder and left quickly back towards his tower.
"Huh. That's nice." I smiled to myself and walked towards the student kitchen.
I was lucky I knew what I was doing, otherwise I wouldn't be able to make a cake. I grabbed the flour, eggs, vanilla, and milk before wondering if he would prefer chocolate. Just in case he does, I grabbed confectionars sugar, cocoa powder, and all the other materials I needed for the cake and frosting.
After baking the cake and creating the frosting I set them aside in the room to cool, afterwards I ran to the art room. It would help pass time making the decorations while the cake cooled. Quickly I ran without my shoes on to my room with the decorations, set them down, and ran back to the student kitchen.
"Ow. Ow. Ow." My feet tingled after walking without shoes or socks, it felt really different from what I was used to.
After frosting the cake with the chocolate frosting I put freshly cut strawberries on top. I think Orion likes strawberries because of the things I've watched him eat so far. I set the cake in the refridgerator and ran to my room as quickly as I could to put the decorations up. I groaned wondering why I didn't just put these up yesterday?
"But then again... Orion was over here yesterday." I had to think about it. "Geh!" I flailed my arms about seeing there was tape stuck to my hands. I had to get the cake I had no time for this! Getting the tape I ran back to the school once agan with no shoes on but this time my heel got cut opened as I ran.
"Ow. Owie." I began to speed walk on my toes, it's amazing how much time could pass while you are doing something productive. A while ago it was seven in the morning, now it's almost four in the afternoon.
After I took the cake I looked back hoping I didn't leave any blood on campus, I was scared it was dripping badly. Thankfully there wasn't anything when I looked back so I went to my room swiftly so I could make my way to the girls bath.
"Ah. Free." I sat in the bath to soak in the warm water.
My hard work was paying off and was almost over. I tried to figure out what I needed next, then it was a sudden realization. I forgot his present! Splashing the water around a bit, I jumped out of the bath and finished cleaning in the shower.
"Wah! How could I forget?" I made my way back to art room. I completely forgot I left my slippers in there because I figured it'd be easier to run barefoot than have to constantly switch shoes. "I don't have a present?" I felt completely dumbfounded remembering I didn't get anything for him... maybe he wouldn't notice? Maybe Orion wouldn't mind I forgot?
I wrapped a box and put a brightly colored piece of paper inside, hopefully he'd take this as a present. I giggled then rushed to my room, my hair was still wet and I was now wearing pajamas.
"Lae?" Orion came behind me and I threw the box in my room slamming the door shut.
"Y-yes!" I shrieked facing Orion, my nervousness was too obvious.
"If you wanted me over you didn't have to make a card." He pulled out the card and I got closer my wet hair flicking onto his skin.
"Oh gee I'm sorry Orion! I'm really sorry." I apologized, so far this was awkward.
"It's nothing to be sorry about but jut uh.. why is your hair wet?" He asked.
"Oh um, I washed it not too long ago." I said and he dragged me into his room. It strangely smelled like gingerbread but was neatly done.
"Sit." He pointed at his bed, I looked at it and made frantic movements. "Sit." He pulled a towel out of his closet, I sat down and he sat behind me.
"U-um, you don't have to do this for me." This was making me a bit dizzy.
"It's okay, you're kinda like a pet I never had." It sounded like he laughed, well more like a titter. "So I don't mind, and you'd probably forget to dry it." He rubbed the towel against my scalp the ends.
"Oh um.. then thank you." I sat quietly before he finished, I wish I could've seen him laugh!
"So do you want me to come over?" He asked after drying my hair.
"Yes but um... give me ten minutes, I wanna change okay?" I opened his door and walked into the hallway.
"Fine by me." He waited for me to open my door before closing his.
"Okay Lae you have ten minutes to change, do your hair, put the present in the closet, and turn off the lights without Orion suspecting it." I told myself and quickly made sure I did everything.
"Lae?" I heard him knock at the door, I squealed then turned off the lights. While changing I put a bandage on my foot so it didn't bleed anymore, it stopped temporarily because of the shower so I forgot about that too.
"Open the door." I said and the bright hallway light came in. "Surprise!" I jumped up at him and hugged him waiting for him to hug back.
"I guess this is a surprise." He slightly grinned.
"Er... maybe? I did tell you but this was surprising, huh? Right it was surprising, yeah?" I had a bright smile on my face hoping he would make that grin like mines too.
"Yeah." Orion grinned brightly and I felt my heart skip a beat. Mission complete!
"I made you a cake, wanna try some?" I asked pointing to the cake on my dresser.
"Sure." I stood up and got us both slices.
"This is good." He complimented stuffing his face with the cake.
"Really? That's good." I felt a foolish smile creep on my face.
"Oh yeah Lae..." He set the cake aside and got a bit closer.
"Y-yeah?" I looked up at him, I never realize how tall he is until he towers over me.
"A-about today." He began before I heard a loud boom.
"What was that?" I jumped up and heard a scream. Orion looked at me briefly before we both dashed out of the room to see the scene.
