"oh, finally, you're up!"

michael hears ashton's voice behind him and turns around to face him. michael smiles widely at him, surprising ashton a bit.

ashton had never seen michael smile so widely and brightly before. not after...the incident from many years back. but it was a great sight to behold. seeing the lilac-haired boy smile made ashton extremely happy. though...he wondered what exactly had brought this change upon him.

"wow, you seem pretty happy today," ashton commented, receiving a nod from michael. "i am. i'm meeting up with a friend later tonight," he said, sitting down on one of the barstools in front of the counter. ashton raised an eyebrow. he'd never heard of this said 'friend'.

"a friend? do i know him?"

"no, not yet," michael smiled, taking in a spoonful of cereal into his mouth. "oh...will i get to meet him soon?" the younger boy nodded, swallowing. "yeah, soon enough." ashton nodded and smiled. "alright then...as long as he doesn't have any other intentions with you, then he's cool with me. anyway, i might not come home early tonight, so if you return and i'm not here, don't worry. i'm just with calum."

"it's okay, i don't mind."

"alright then. remember to take your medication, okay?" ashton said, starting to walk off to his room.

"i know!" michael called back, continuing to eat his cereal. he glanced at the pill bottles on the countertop and sighed. he really hated having to take those pills, but ashton did have a point once, even if michael hated to admit it. they would help him in some way if he continued to take them. and maybe luke wanted him to recover as well or to feel a bit better.

luke had expressed his worry and concern for him during that phone call the night before. even thought luke barely knew him, the man somehow knee that michael was troubled and not well. michael sighed and shook his head. maybe he should start worrying over his mental health already...
