"So tell me why you even agreed to date this guy," Dillon started as we were skiing back.
"I've been asking myself that ever I said yes," I sighed. "At first in my mind I was definitely going to say no, but then...he starting talking about the one thing I'm really protective over. Softball. I don't really persay go around bragging about it, but when I'm challenged about it, I like to put people in there place a little bit. Like just because I don't always talk about it, softball is my life. And so when Austin mentioned it when he asked me, that fueled a fire in my heart. There's been a lot of talk lately about how Alex wants to take my spot and, I don't know, I just thought that maybe if I said yes to Austin, I'd show Alex that I'm just as good as her."
"Softball? I would've pinned you as a volleyball player or a swimmer, but a softball player? Never would've guessed," Dillon chuckled. "So what's so great about this 'spot'? Are you both competing for varsity or something?"
"I'm the first ranked overall player in the state," I whispered to Dillon. "I have been for 3 years now. And Alex got ranked tenth last year."
Now he actually turned to look at me. "Excuse me? Did I just hear first in the state?!"
I nodded my head, knowing that he was looking at me.
"So not only are you a trail master here, but you're a state ranked softball player. Who would've guessed," Dillon laughed out.
I decided to change the subject seeing that this was very awkward for me. "So what about you? Tell me about yourself."
"What do you want to know?" Dillon chuckled. His laugh was so nice to listen to. -does that sound weird? It's just the carefreeness of it is toxic. it makes you want to smile and laugh with him.
"Anything," I started, "and everything." I winked at him. -My attempt to flirt with him was horrendous but practice makes perfect right?
He just lightly shook his head back and forth, "Well don't be upset when there's not much to tell." He went on, "Well my name is Dillon Tyler-"
I couldn't let him go on. I knew that name, I now knew that face, I knew everything I would ever need to know about him.
