Demi

As we left the restaurant, I felt Nick's hand tug mine a little before he let go of it completely. I turned, on the sidewalk, to see that the reason was Nick throwing his arms around his ex girlfriend, Delta. Neither of them even spoke a word before they embraced, rather tightly, I might add. I watched Nick's face as he hugged Delta. He was grinning like a lovesick puppy. I know my eyes were wide as I stared at Nick, not taking my eyes from his face. His eyes met mine for a brief moment & it was if he didn't care I was standing there or didn't know who the hell I was. Nick stopped hugging her, but kept his arms around her waist for a moment as he looked into her eyes. For a brief second, I wanted to punch him.

"Delta, you look amazing. It's so good to see you." Nick said, still smiling at Delta, ignoring me. The way he said this to her & the way his eyes traveled from her face to her legs made me furious.

"You, too, Love. You look pretty good yourself. Marriage agrees with you." Delta said in her adorable Australian accent. I forgot how gorgeous she was.

Nick's face looked confused for a moment, like he had no idea what she was talking about. Now I was annoyed. "Oh... yea... yea." Nick glanced my way, still smiling. I glared in response to his momentary confusion.

Delta turned & saw me. "Oh, my. Demi! I didn't see you there." She hugged me & I got a whiff of her amazing scent. She was fucking perfect & I was suddenly feeling like the ugliest woman alive. Delta stood back & looked at me. "God, you're so gorgeous. Married looks good on you, too, girl."

"Aww, you're too kind." I laughed. I knew she was lying. Or at least trying to be sweet, because I knew that about her. She was sweet. Renee often told me. Nick's family & friends always said that about her. I'm sure when they all spoke of me, the word sweet wasn't the first word out of their mouth.

I glanced at Nick who was smiling, proudly, at me. I felt a little more comfort from this smile. I wished he would have come to stand next to me or put his arm around my waist or something. Instead, he stood close to Delta, like she was the one he was married to.

"I'm actually coming to your show tomorrow night." Delta said to me.

"You are? That's awesome. I hope you enjoy it." I smiled at her. I wasn't sure if I was smiling for real or not.

"Oh I will. I had to pay a hefty price for tickets but I was excited when I saw you were having a show while I was in town."

"We'll put you on the guest list, D." Nick said, stepping closer to us. "Dani & Kev will be there & they would love to see you."

"Oh, I would love to see them, too." Delta said, turning to Nick. "That's sweet of you to do that. Are you sure it's not a problem?"

"No, it's fine. We have a lot of friends & family coming tomorrow night. It will be a party backstage." I interjected.

"Are you coming to the show with Renee?" Nick asked.

"No. With my fiance." Delta held up her engagement ring. "I got engaged last month."

Nick looked surprised, but then he smiled. "Congratulations."

"Thanks. His name is Chris & he is a theater director & we may be moving to New York if his production gets picked up for Broadway.

"That would be awesome. You always did love this city." Nick spoke in a quiet voice as if he was reminiscing.

"You'll get to meet him tomorrow I guess." Delta looked at both Nick & I.

"Do you have plans for lunch tomorrow?" Nick asked Delta.

"No. Chris is in meetings all day so I'll go shopping or hang out in the hotel room." Delta laughed as she rolled her eyes.
