I watched Nick's face when Dr. Anderson said, "Baby B is a girl." Nick's smile was positively adorable & his eyes lit up. He was having a daughter. And she would be the luckiest girl in the world to have Nick as her daddy. Nick was standing beside me, holding my hand.
"A girl." He whispered, then bent down to kiss my forehead.
Dr. Anderson was still working the wand & doing whatever he needed to do. "I'm going to try to see the other baby now." He moved the wand to see the other baby & his brow wrinkled. "Hmm." He said. I wasn't watching the screen because I was smiling up at my husband. "This baby really doesn't want you to know what it is." He chuckled.
"Well we at least know it's either a boy or a girl." I laughed.
"We can try to look again at the next ultrasound." Dr. Anderson said.
I nodded. "Yea, that's fine. Maybe then he or she won't be so modest." I smiled, looking at Nick to see if he agreed. He still had a goofy grin on his face & I could tell he didn't care.
Nick & I were standing at the receptionist counter together a little later, making my next appointment. He was still grinning from ear to ear as he leaned on the counter beside me. His phone rang & he jumped, pulling it from his pocket quickly. He stepped away from the counter apologizing to the girls behind the counters. I smiled at them & shrugged my shoulders.
"Don't you dare tell anyone what we're having yet." I yelled after him, watching him smile & nod at me before turning his back. I looked at the nurse sitting in front of me. "I'm looking at my calendar & I need a morning appointment for my next one." I said. I looked up to see two girls whispering while they seemed to be looking in Nick's direction. The other girl who sat at the computer leaned on her hand, watching him, too. I cleared my throat, loudly & they all looked at me. "I'm sorry. Is there something going on with my husband?"
The nurse at the computer smiled. "We're all a little jealous, I think." She looked down as if she were embarrassed.
"Jealous?" I asked.
The other two nurses stepped forward. "You're a lucky girl." One of them said under her breath.
I let out a loud laugh. I leaned on the counter, smirking. "I know I am, but why do you think I am lucky?"
The nurse sitting down smiled, warmly, with stars in her eyes. "He has come to every single one of your appointments & most fathers don't do that. I mean he hasn't missed even one. And we've all seen the videos of your performances at the Jingle Ball & the AMA's. The way he helped you up to the stage... I mean.... oh my God, you're the envy of every woman in the world right now. If only every guy could be like him." She looked down again, turning red.
"I wish that every guy in the world was like him, but even he has his flaws." I chuckled.
The nurse sitting laughed. "I bet they're minor."
"Depends on my mood." I laughed. "But he is quite the gentleman for sure. His mama raised him & his brothers right."
"And he's the sexiest man alive." One of the standing nurses said, in a low voice.
I laughed & smiled over my shoulder at my husband. "He is sexy, but the sexiest man alive is pushing it ladies..."
The three nurses all giggled. One of them stopped laughing to speak. "No, he's People magazine's Sexiest Man Alive. It was just announced today."
