Aspen was 15 when she realized she could do special things, unnatural things, peculiar things.

It was the summer of her 15th birthday and she was exasperated by the fact that her brother Jack was no longer permitted to come home by order of her father.

The story behind it was that Jack decided that he didn't want to serve for the army because he had fallen in love. tragic. at least for their father.

Although Aspen had no problem with her brother falling in love with a girl and deciding not to serve , her father was absolutely livid.

Her father didn't like change, he liked things to be perfect. A beautiful wife, one daughter, one son and a respectable family home.

He couldn't stand that his son was changing the plans.

Aspen thought it was hilarious.

jack burst through the front doors one morning and demanded that my father speak to him.

"You can't expect me to leave her, this is incredibly absurd!" Jack screamed at father who's face was turning a bright shade of tomato red.

"Yes I can and I do!" His booming voice echoing the halls of our home.
"Martin, the neighbours will hear you." My mother peeped. My fathers eyebrows furrowed even deeper in between his eyes " do I look like I give a damn Ella!" He yelled, so loud that I cringed at the frequency.

My brother stormed off into his bedroom, slamming the door behind him.

I sat there with a small grin across my face.

"Do you think this is funny?" Father boomed,
"Well, no" I said innocently
"Then what do you think of this, hmm?" He sounded so different.

I got furious.
Was he daft? What did he think I thought of this, that it was okay? I mean of course his constant state of discontent was absolutely entertaining to say the least, but I wasn't alright with it affecting my brother.

"I just think that your absolutely ignorant, have you ever been in love, no of course not I mean who could love you?" I yelled at him, standing up.

"How dare you, how dare you!" He yelled then took a deep breath, my mother, the fragile woman that she was scurried over and put her hand on my fathers arm "Martin, please." She pleaded. He shoved her off "how dare you disrespect me in my own house!" He bellowed. Then he grabbed my arm.

I was steaming with anger, my eyebrow furrowed I was so focused that I didn't even notice the patch of ice surrounding my hand and travelling up his forearm. His face melted with the first glimpse of fear i had ever seen before.
"How did... What are..?" He mumbled

Then the ice traveled up his arm and down his chest. He stopped moving, my mother shrivelled up in fear and ran into her room. Soon enough my father was frozen instantly. Then Jack came out of his room to see what all the noise was about. He squinted then slowly approached me.

I was petrified at what I did.

"Aspen, what happened?" He asked, a tear came down my cheek "I-I don't know?, I just got mad and the-en this hap-p-pened." He nodded, his eyes growing larger. I pulled my arm away and if I hadn't taken a step backwards my father wouldn't have fallen.

But i did and he smashed into millions of pieces.

So,
I ran.
