I scrambled under the fallen shelter, watching as everything on the outside turned to flames.
"Emilee!" I searched the roaring flames for the owner of the voice I knew to well. "Where are you?" They called out.
"Mom!" It was no use. It only came out as a whisper. Throat hoarse, I coughed. The smoke was leaking into my lungs the higher the flames climbed the trees.
"Emilee!" I looked up to see that her clothes were torn and her hair was in every which way. I stood and tried to walk to her, but everything fell into a swirling mess. I dropped down into a dark cold abyss.
With the little light coming from above I could see the ground approaching. I placed my arms around my face and curled into a ball. On impact the air was knocked out of me. I felt sick but did not throw up.
I laid there for what seemed like forever. I was alone.
"Get up." A deep smooth voice from the darkness commanded.
"Who; are you?" I struggled to get out. I lifted my head slightly in the direction of the sound. But all that met my eyes was darkness.
"Get up." He commanded again, this time with more authority. I frites my teeth.
"I will, not." I wasn't about to let anyone make me stand up with how much I was hurting.
"Fine then stay down there and die. But, if you are able to stand and walk I can help you." The sound of heels clicked across the ground. "Get up." His final command before I could sense that he was only a few feet away.
In. Out. In. Out. I moved my hand away from stomach and placed it on the ground. It felt like smooth metal. I attempted to push myself into siting position. Pain immediately shot from my wrist traveling up to my shoulder.
"Don't work yourself over load. I can wait." I rolled my eyes.
Tears escaped when I was finally sitting. Not from the accomplishment, but from me being able to endure that much pain not cry out. The man walked in front of me and bent down. A small light from above illuminated his face.
"Emilee! Wake up!" My eyes shot open to see my mom hovering over me. I was in my room. I wasn't in pain. I was okay. Seeing the wild look in my eye, she sat down and took my hand. "Whats wrong?" I sat up and looked at her. She was alright. Not a burn, scratch, in sight. Only messy hair.
"I had a dream that's all." With my other hand I rubbed my eyes feeling the tears I shed.
"No what's wrong." She moved closer. I sighed before telling her what I could remember from the dream.
"Mom? I'm not okay." Tears steamed up in my eyes. My bottom lip quivered ever so slightly, but the look of sorrow on my mothers face is what made the tears fall. She placed a hand on the back of my head and pulled me to her. She rocked back and forth soothing my sobs.
"Shh, baby I have you." She whispered into my ear. My body shook with all the emotions that have not set themselves free.
