My body is rigged with anger, and hatred as I look at the women who killed my sister. “You’re not getting anything from me except for a bullet I’m the head!” I yell. She grins as if shed planned every bit of this. “Just give me the baby, it can’t be that hard. You give me the child, and I give you the rest of your lives, at least for now.” She looks at me sinisterly, and Ben hobbles forward with hatred in his eyes. “You can’t have my son you stupid bitch. You’ll have to go through me.” He hisses through gritted teeth. “And me.” Robbie pipes up stepping forward. I look at all my friends willing to risk their lives for my family, for them. They’re my family.
Karen grins at us, as if she knows that we’ll fail at what we plan to do. I pull my gun from my waist band, and hold tighter to Abel. “Karen, you can walk away now, and I’ll give you your life, I mean for now.” I let my words hiss through my teeth full of anger, and aggravation. She shakes her head, with her lips still holding a grin. “You’re so stupid, don’t make me put a bullet through your skull just like I did your sister.” I pull the trigger with hatred running through my veins. In a moment all is still, and quiet, and Karen is just standing there perfectly fine. I lean forward as if I’m going to vomit. How the hell did she dodge that? “You need to leave now Karen.” Ben hisses, “Or you’re going to have an issue with some of us.”
She rolls her eyes as if this is some lame teen drama. “You can’t have him! There is no reason for you to want him!” Robbie screeches, his words sounding like venom from his lips. “That Robbie is where you’re wrong, but don’t you always end up wrong. I mean even when you were harnessed you were outside the pack.” All the blood drains from his face. A lot of things make more sense now. The baggy sweaters, his automatic niceness toward me, he knew I wouldn’t hate him. He knew about Ben, he just happened to fall for me anyway. I look at him, and see the pain in soft eyes for the first time since we met I can see his weakness. “I’m so sorry.” He whispers at me.
Karen audibly laughs at him. “You even fell in love wrong. I mean she’s married, and to a Mason, is mean has a fighting legend, and you fell for his freaking life. Who I can see is madly in love with him.” She looks over at me, and Ben’s tightly intertwined fingers. “I’m sorry Ben. I didn’t mean to, I just wanted a friend.” Robbie’s voice is shaky, and then his face turns cold, and angry. He turns back to Karen. “Elizabeth, please hand me your gun, and get your son out of here.” Robbie’s voice is determined, and cold. I don’t like the sound, but I hand him the weapon anyway.
“You may get away now, but you will always fail.” Karen’s voice is full of malice, and I know she believes what she’s saying. “Run.” Robbie stats, and a gun sounds everything is blurry, then there is more than one gunshot. I feel a hard impact to my shoulder, I try to stay up to hold to Abel, and Ben grabs onto him, and fall to the ground. Bullets rain the air, along with the smell of smoke, and Hal trying to shout orders, but there’s so much chaos, its doing no good. That’s when I see him. Robbie, crimson pouring from his chest. Quickly I crawl for him, finally reaching him I put both of my hands on the side of his face. Blood seeps from the bullet wound on his chest, and a small bit escapes his lips.
He looks up at me, his eyes slowly glazing over. “I’m sorry-“sputters from his lips. “Shhh.” I mumble stroking his cheeks. He gives a small grin as he tries to suck in deep breaths. “I love you.” He whispers. I feel the tears streaming down his cheeks. I feverishly lean forward.” He whispers. I feel the tears streaming down his cheeks. I feverishly lean forward, and messily press my lips to his. I pull away, and look at him with a pain filled expression.-“he’s quiet, and his chest has stopped rising. I letting the sobs escape my throat.
I feel Ben’s arms around me. That’s when I realize his arms are empty. “Where is he?” escapes from my mouth. I look at him. His scalp is bleeding as if he’s been bludgeoned. “I’m sorry.” His voice is thick with tears, and as the bullets clear out my screams fill the air. "Noo! Noo!” “I” “I’m sorry.” “No.” Alyss, Ashton, try and pull us to our feet, and drag us along. Finally we make camp about two hours away from where the attack took place. I crawl into the tent pulling my knees to my chest, and letting my tears stream down my cheeks. After a while Ashton follows in after me, and looks at me with a new sadness etched into face. It’s the loss of his bestfriend taking a toll on him, its making him ache.
We both sit there in a painful silence before Ben, and Alyss come in. Alyss sits between me and Ashton taking one of each of our hands tightly in hers Ben sits next to me, wrapping his arms around me, and then Matt comes in to use my lap as a pillow. As we sit there I can see Hal sitting in front of the tent keeping guard. Finally once my tears have run dry I cuddle up to Ben. “I’m sorry.” He whispers again. “It’s not your fault, and we’ll get him back because there is no way in hell I’m letting her have my son. We’ll get him back, if it takes my life, I will get my son back. She is not taking another person from me. She doesn’t get to win.”
