Chapter Fifteen
"Come!" I basically begged Ashby on the way home. Yeah... not in the way you think or at least I think so??
Ah shit, I need to find a place where they sold new brains.
"But what if Rob-"
"Robert doesn't need you, Jaynie will take them all the kids trick or treating. C'mon it'd be really fun if you did"
"You wouldn't even speak to me" She spoke pulling up her socks again, catching her bag as it was about to fall off her one shoulder.
"What do you mean?"
"We never speak at school" She told me and being the dumbass I was I realized she was right. We never did, I hung with Sam... and now Joss it seemed and she hanged out with Luke.
"Please Ashby. I just want you to have fun for once in your life" I smiled, she pinched her eyebrows together and she stopped in her tracks. I turned slightly to watch her.
"I don't know" She sighed and started to undo her two braids, it had made her hair move wavy than normal and she was starting to look like she had a mane.
"I'll even talk to you if you come" I grinned to which she rolled her eyes, putting the bobbles on her wrist and start to run her hands through her hair. I bet it was really soft, it looked soft. "Wow. Getting spoken to by Ardon Caraway how on earth did I get so lucky?" She spoke with sarcastic enthusiasm. "Hey it's Donnie and most girls would die for the chance to be spoken to by me. So you should grateful by how often we do speak " I joked back, she gave a second eye rolled her eyes again and began to walk up to where I stood, I honestly thought one day she would lose her eyes into the back of her head if she rolled them around anymore.
As she reached me, her arms landed on my shoulders before she stretched up onto her tip toes. She was the height of my jaw line now; short-ass. She a nice ass so hot-short-ass?
"You love talking to me... Ardon" She spoke with a cheeky grin then began to skip back home like a little cartoon character, dropping her bag on the floor as she went but damn I did love talking to her.
"It's Donnie!" I called after her. She shook her head and I could feel that she was smiling and damn she was tease wearing that skirt.
I could practically imagine about I could just pick her up right now and kiss her. I didn't care who was watching or if it was a lame-ass, cringy thing to do.
"Come Donnie. We better home if we want to get ready for the party tonight because if I go I take forever to get ready" She laughed, my eyes widened watching her skip for a couple more moments soaking up all the glorious I site before picking up her bag and walking up to her.
"Forgetting something?" I asked putting her bag over her shoulders, pulling her hair out the way so it wouldn't get trapped. Yep, it was soft, softest thing in the world.
"No I was just seeing how much my bag loved me and look it followed me home. True love right there" She joked, I was the one who rolled my eyes now.
Strange girl. Beautiful strange girl..
"You sure you're going to be okay being left on your own?" Jaynie worried side on show. I nodded.
"Yeah, don't worry, Jaynie" Ashby spoke sweetly as she flashed those innocent eyes of hers and if it were me I'd tell her she could party everyday for the rest of life.
"I don't want to be out too late but Lily heard someone at school say at midnight they are lighting up the town for the celebration and Ryan just fell in love with the idea" She spoke still unsure.
"Jaynie, it's one night and they don't have school tomorrow and I bet Robert would love that. He's never seen the lights been lit up for the first time" Ashby replied, pushing out of her seat.
"Oh, I don't know. I don't feel comfortable about this" Jaynie continued and I swear if she didn't get convinced then we'd be the snobby rich kids who need to be home by nine so their Mommies could tuck them in.
"Jaynie, don't worry about it" I joined in, staying in my seat though otherwise she'd definitely sense something was up.
"Okay. Okay. I need to go and write a list" She gave in, waving her arms about.
"List?" Ashby questioned just before Jaynie left the room.
"Police numbers. My numbers. Where the food is kept. What not to touch. Safe precautions!" She shook madly. Ashby opened her mouth to say something then stopped and nodded with a small smile, clever girl. When Jaynie was like this you didn't ask questions, you nodded and smiled so you could get your own way.
And with that Jaynie walked off mumbling numbers under her breath.
"Well this is going to be a fun night" I chuckled Ashby when I made sure Jaynie was out of sight.
"I'm not going" She spoke in a rush.
"What? When did you change your mind?"
"I didn't change my mind. I just made a decision" Ah this girl made my head spin. Why couldn't she say something and then stick to it? "Why won't you go?"
"I..." She broke off, pulling her hair around her face which I could only assume was a nervous habit.
"Ashby" I groaned in frustration, running my hair through my hair.
"Because I'm nervous! I've never been to a party before and we have to lie to Jaynie about it! It's stressful and parties are far from being my type of scene" She spoke messily, oh fuck she was trembling. No, no,no not now, I thought as I stood up, rushing to her side as I saw she was getting worked up.
"Calm down, Ash because if I'm being blunt you're going to fuck everything up right now. Jaynie can't see you like this" I spoke, praying to God she wouldn't cry because one, it was too beautiful to watch and secondly because I wouldn't know what the fuck to do and not the mention of Jaynie walked back in then it would be game over. She breathed for a moment and nodded her being the one to rake her hands threw her hair in big strokes.
Unknotting it all the way to the tips.
"Sorry" She tried to laugh.
