Jason avoided Percy at school the next few days. The boy would try and talk to him, smiling and happy, and Jason would dodge around him with an excuse to get to class, to use the restroom, something to get away. He didn't want to look into Percy's eyes, he didn't want to see that heartbreak that he knew he caused. It was a fate worse than death, to know of your mate, to have to see them every day and to not love them. And his friends...They never stopped yelling at him for it. He had Leo, and Piper, and Annabeth, Reyna, Nico, even Luke and Octavian, were telling him to get with Percy, to at least be nice to him...Jason couldn't do it.
"Come on man!" Leo threw a pencil at Jason. It bounced harmlessly off Jason's shoulder, but he still shot a glare at the Latino. Leo stuck his tongue out. "Annabeth said he was crying last night, because you won't even look him in the eye! Are you seriously heartless, man!? I thought you were better then-"
"Valdez!"
HE froze, then grinned. "Yes ma'am!"
"For the sake of all that is holy, please stop talking!" The teacher impatiently tapped her nails against her desk, glaring at the two of them. Jason's neck went hot and he stared down at his paper, nodding. "Thank you."
Leo rolled his eyes and started to pass notes to Jason. Innapropriate things, name calling, Jason's eye twitched in irritation. He scribbled something out on one of the notes and shoved it bakc in Leo's face. The Latino squeaked in surprise, then laughed and hit Jason's arm. "Stop that."
Jason stared down at the worksheet. Why did he need to know the difference between Who and Whom?! He groaned and hit his head on the desk. "Fuck this. I want to become an assassin."
"Fuckin' rad!" Leo clapped his back. Jason glared at him and smacked his hand away.
"Don't touch me."
"Boys!" The teacher was glaring at them, from in front of their desks. "Front office. Now."
Jason's heart dropped and he stood, guiltily putting things away. Leo was excited, bouncing as he packed up. He blew Frank a kiss and winked as he walked out, not waiting for Jason. The blond walked out with ease, bag over his shoulder, glasses halfway down his nose. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. Everything was fine. Everything was perfectly fine.

Everything was wrong. Percy couldn't help but feel pitiful, and Annabeth couldn't find it in her to tell Percy to stop it. He was sitting in the library with a textbook in front of him, sighing every few minutes. She was trying to help him study, but she could tell he was thinking about Jason.
"Oi," She reached over and flicked his forehead. "Stop that sighing, lover boy. You've got a chem test to study for."
He wailed miserably. She rolled her eyes. Just because she couldn't tell him to stop didn't mean she couldn't be pissed. "Percy."
He hunkered down, grumbling.
Jason Grace punched open the door to the library, Leo Valdez chattering at his side. Percy went to look, but Annabeth smacked his head with her notebook. "Studying!" She glared at the two boys as they walked in. Leo immediately started shoving Jason in Percy's direction, but the blond easily outweighed his friend and fought him off. The two walked into the back room, coming out with arms full of textbooks. Percy froze when he heard their voices.
"Leo, this is your fricking fault! If you had just shut up for five seconds-"
"Oi, you're the one who suggested helping to move the textbooks instead of taking detention, okay asshole?"
