"Wake up," I radio Sans in a friendly tone at 7:30 in the morning. After a minute of silence, I say, "Hey, wake up."
"i'm up, i'm up," Sans's tired voice calls from the radio. "whaddya want?"
"We have a problem. That storm knocked out the phone line I use to talk to the service, meaning we're cut off. Radioing in isn't working either."
"do i have to go fix it?" He asks in a whiny tone.
"Well, you probably can't. But I am gonna need you to hike down there and see if you can find where the line is down. Then I'll get someone to come down and fix it," I explain. He sighs again.
"alright, i can do that. where do i look?"
"Remember that cave you hiked through yesterday?" I ask.
"yup," he says simply. A burst of static goes through the radiowave before I talk again.
"You're gonna want to go back there, through the cave and keep heading north when you come out."
"will do," Sans says.
"Thanks, Sans," I say, putting my radio into my pocket. I stand up and grab my hiking backpack. I get the bag of food I made off of the small counter that serves as my kitchen and start out the door.

I walk down the creaking, wooden stairs leading up to my lookout and start down a trail leading to Thorofare lake. I look around at the pretty scenery, blocking the sun out of my eyes with my right hand. The food bag in my left-hand feels heavy as I continue towards the lake.
A shiver runs down my spine from the cool air of the morning. I pull my walkie talkie out as I continue to the lake.

"So, where do you live?" I ask, and I immediately regret it after. "Sorry, that was random."
"i live in ebott city," he replies casually. "you?"
"I actually live there too, on the outskirts." Sans laughs.
"serious?" He asks.
"Serious."

I cautiously walk through a dip in the ground, the lake coming into view as I reach the top. I pull the radio back up to my mouth.
"What do you look like?" Sans doesn't respond for a while. "Sorry," I say automatically, afraid of offending him.
"it's alright." He doesn't elaborate.

I come to a stop in front of the lake. I sit down at one of the picnic tables, setting my bag down on the bench.

"i made it to the phone poles," Sans says. I pick my radio up as he continues talking. "i don't see a downed wire... oh, wait. there it is. uh..." He trails off.
"Yeah?" I ask.
"[y/n], i don't think the storm did this," his voice rings in my ears. A wave of confusion and panic hits me.
"What? What do you mean?" I ask urgently.
"looks like someone deliberately cut it down. right near the pole," he explains.
"Are you fucking kidding me?" I say quietly.
"'fraid not," Sans replies with a sigh. "there's a pair of, uh... panties here. they have 'go to hell' written in black ink with a drawing of me."
"God. Are you fucking serious? You know what? I want you to go and find their camp."
"then what?"
"Give 'em hell."

I set my radio down on the picnic table, setting my head in my hands. A family comes laughing up a trail off to my right, sitting down at the table next to mine. I turn to look over at them.
A little kid with chestnut hair and matching eyes stands near my table, smiling up at me.
"You look lonely. Do you want to eat with us?" They ask. I shake my head slowly with a small, strained smile.
"No, that's okay. Thank you," I say. I move my head to look up where their family stands. Two monsters stand there with smiles on their faces. A tall, intimidating looking skeleton and a motherly looking goat woman. I smile back at them before looking back down at my table.

"FRISK!" The skeleton's loud, squeaky voice rings out. "DO YOU KNOW THIS HUMAN?"
I look over as the little kid, Frisk, shakes their head.
"You shouldn't be talking to strangers," the goat says in a motherly tone. "Especially with how people around town have been treating you lately."
"They look nice enough," Frisk replies causing me to smile.
