I watched the fire burning near Two Forks Tower in the dark. I was more of staring at the tower, wondering whether or not Sans was awake. I found myself thinking about him more than I thought about my actual job. My thoughts were interrupted by Sans' voice ringing from my radio.

"you seein' this fire?" He asked.
     "Yup," I answer plainly.
"you gonna call it in?" He asked again.
     "Already did."
A soft sigh came from the radio. "it's really pretty."
"Yup. Y'know, since it's in your sector, you get the honors of naming it."
"really?" Sans asks. "hmm... how about the '[y/n] fire'?"
"Creative," I say. "Why not the Sans fire?"
"sans isn't as pretty," he responds. A smile makes its way onto my face. It wipes away quickly. I'm not going down this road again.

I pull out a sheet of paper and write down the area that the fire was in. I write the name underneath and make a little doodle of a fire. I take it over to the copy machine and wait as it makes a copy. I grab my radio in my hand and just hold it, not knowing what to say.
When the copy machine is finished, I tape the original to my window next to the drawing of Sans and his family. I write the details of the fire on the copy and take it over to the fax machine to send it to the central office.

"[y/n]?" Sans' voice rings from over the radio.
     "Yeah?" I answer.
"i wish you were over here."
"Me too," I say in spite of myself. "We could talk without these radios."

Sans starts to say something but he's cut off by another voice ringing though the receiver.
"Wow! [Y/N], are you seeing this fire?" Blake's voice says. I sigh and switch channels on my walkie talkie.
"Yes, Blake, I can see it."
"We'll probably be stuck with this puppy all summer." He whistles.
     "Yes, we will, Blake."
"Something the matter, sweetheart?" He asks.

I roll my eyes and switch the channel back.
"Sorry, Sans. What did you say?" I ask.
"i... never mind. it doesn't matter," he answers quietly.
"I'm sorry, one of the other lookouts was talking over you."
"you have one radio that goes to all the lookouts? how come i can't talk to the others?"
"My radio has different channels to talk to each lookout while each lookout can only talk to me. Mainly so the lookouts don't meet up without my knowing."
"oh. what about dave and ron?" Sans asks.
"They're rangers, they do as they please," I say.

"Are you looking at the fire?" I ask Sans.
     "no, i'm not," he replies.
"You should be, it's actually really pretty. It'll probably be there all summer."
"really? isn't that like, dangerous for me?" He asks.
"No, of course not. They'll have some firefighters out there to create a controlled burn, but it'll burn in that area until we get heavy rain in the fall."

"hey, did you hear about the fire at the circus?" Sans asks suddenly.
     "No..." I reply.
"it was in tents," Sans says. I giggle and find myself imagining Sans with a shit eating grin on his face. "there was a fire at the studio recently. the firemen found out the cause was my mixtape."
I laugh harder as Sans makes more puns. "oh man, i'm really on fire here."
"I got one for you," I say when I stop laughing.
     "go, kid," Sans replies.
"What's the difference between a hippo and a zippo?"
     "i don't know, what?"
"One's really heavy and the other's a little lighter!" I say before making the rimshot noise with my mouth. Sans' laughter erupted from the radio.
"that's a good one, kid," Sans says.
"I'm not a kid, Sans," I reply with a grin.
"anyone younger than me is a kid, doll," he replies. The nickname makes my face burn in embarrassment.
"Whatever, Sans," I reply. He answers me with a laugh.
     "goodnight, doll," he says.
     "Goodnight, Sans."

I lay down in my bed, facing the fire. The [Y/N] fire. I close my eyes and fall asleep still thinking about Sans.
