I slam the door of my black Jeep Wrangler shut behind me, locking it and shoving the keys into the back pocket of my jeans. I walk around to the bed of the truck and pull my tan hiking pack out, slinging it onto my back.
I start down the trail, reflecting on everything that's happened recently. Thankfully I get to escape society for the summer again, especially with the pressing issue of the monsters' return from the Underground.

I'm brought back from my thoughts as I trip over a stray branch laying across the dusty path. I attempt to regain my balance but end up falling on my face. I push myself up into a sitting position, rubbing the new scratch forming across my cheek. I pull my hand away, blood thinly coating my fingers.
I hold my face as I stand up, moving over to the branch. I pick it up and push it to the side of the trail with my foot and continue walking, stumbling slightly as I go.

I continue down the path, wiping the remainder of the blood away with my sleeve. My legs start to burn as the trail slopes uphill. I raise a hand over my eyes to block out the sun.
The Thorofare Watchtower comes into view, peeking out over the tops of the fir trees. A smile spreads across my face as my pace quickens at the sight of the wooden structure.

I walk up to the stairs of the tall tower, running my hand along the beaten wooden rail. The smile doesn't leave my face as I push open the door to my lookout. I pull my keys out of my pocket and set them down on the dark wooden desk as I shut the door behind me.
Sitting down in the light blue, wooden chair at the desk, I pull my radio off the charger and press the PTT button.

"Hello, Two Forks Lookout!" I say excitedly. I stare with wide eyes through the large window at the lookout across from my own. A burst of static sounds from my walkie-talkie as the new lookout responds.

"yeah, hi. who are you?" A deep voice replies.
"My name is [Y/N]. Look out your window. See the lookout tower on the top of the hill?" I respond, leaning back and kicking my feet up on the desk.
There's a pause before the voice responds with a simple, "yeah."
"That's me!" I say cheerily. "And your name is?"
"uh..." He says. "sans."
I let out a short laugh before radioing him again. "Like, the font?"
I hear him sigh quietly. "yes, like the font." There's a pause.

"well, goodnight," Sans says, breaking the silence.
"Welcome to the job," I reply, setting my radio back on the charging station. I stand up from my seat at my desk and walk towards my bed. I sit down on it, gazing out the window at the disappearing sun. I sigh in content as I lean back onto my pillow and close my eyes.
