My life is not perfect. Far from it, if I am being entirely honest. For starters, I have the biggest crush on my best friend since diapers, Colin Summer. We grew up together and have been practically glued to one another's side for as long as I can remember. I cannot imagine my life without Colin by my side. With his gorgeous golden brown hair that was constantly gelled back, and his deep green eyes which I found myself getting lost in, Colin was my dream guy. The only issue with this prospect is the fact that Colin will never see me as anything but a friend.

"Hey Vic," Colin called as he approached my locker and draped his arm across my shoulder.

"Hi Colin," I replied as a wide grin enveloped my face.

I turned to Colin, grabbing my book for first period from my locker and shutting the door abruptly. He looked gorgeous as ever, wearing a heathered green t-shirt which brought out the intense greenness of his eyes, and a pair of faded jeans which fit to his legs nicely.

"Walk me to chemistry," Colin asked with an innocent smirk.

"You do know that if I get any more tardies Mr. Hartman is going to give me detention, right," I remarked with a questioning look on my face.

"I do, but I also know that you love me and would never let me wander the wretched halls of this school all by myself," Colin replied before shooting a wholesome smile at me.

I swear that smile could cure cancer. Colin's teeth were crest commercial worthy, and I could see the glimmer in his eyes whenever he allowed for a smile to form on his face. I mean how could I resist? I know that another tardy meant that I would be subjected to detention by Mr. Hartman, but really, I could not fathom turning down that wonder boy smile.

"Fine," I responded. "But you owe me!"

"You're the best Vic," Colin said, pulling me in closer under his arm as we made our way to the chemistry lab where Colin's first period was.

"Believe me, I know," I replied, shooting him a smug look.

------------------------------------

I had approximately 30 seconds to the tardy bell as I sprinted through the hallways of Cleardale High School. I really wish I had not skipped gym class last week. Mr. Hartman's class was clear on the opposite side of the school from the chemistry lab. I was hoping that there would not be anyone in the hallways so I had a straight, and easy path on my dash to Creative Writing. My hopes were presently shot down when I got to the common area and there was some sort of science fair occurring.

By the time arrived at my creative writing class, the bell had long past rung. Accepting my detention, I took a seat at the back of the classroom and began working on the assignment written on the whiteboard.

------------------------------------

The next three periods passed in a blur and I soon found the bell ringing which indicated that it was lunch hour. I made my way to the courtyard, where I was meeting my friends for lunch. Greer and Kaia were the first to arrive at our table.

"Hey Victoria," greeted Greer as she took her usual seat across from me.

"I heard you got detention this morning for being late to Hartman's class again," remarked Kaia as she fought back a giggle that was threatening to escape from her lips.

I opened my mouth to reply, but forced it shut when I felt my body being enveloped in the arms of none other than Colin Summer.

"Are you surprised," Colin asked. "You know Vic here is a total rebel."

"Hey- you're the reason I was tardy! You forced me to walk you to chem lab!"

"And for that my dearest Victoria, I will love you forever," replied Colin smiling as he locked his eyes with mine and plopped down next to me.

I noticed Greer and Kaia exchange a look out of the corner of my eye, but all I could do was focus on Colin. I lost myself in his gorgeous eyes and thought to myself that I was so lucky that I had him by my side.

As lunch hour drifted away, Colin and I walked to my locker so we could walk to French together. On our way to French, I looked up at Colin and smiled. Colin looked over and caught me staring at him and I could feel my cheeks heating up in embarrassment.

"What," Colin asked with a quizzical look crossing his face.

"Nothing," I said, suddenly averting my gaze from him.

"Vic..."

"I'm just lucky to have you is all," I said, trying not to let him in and know of my true feelings for him.

"Please," he said. "I'm the lucky one. I have the best friend in the world."

I internally cringed at the mention of that word.

Friend.

That was all I would ever be to Colin. I knew that he was out of my league. He is gorgeous, and I am just moderately average looking on a good day. With my messy blonde locks which lie flat on my head and my hazel eyes that lack sparkle. If only there was some way that I could get him to see me as more than a friend.
