The River & Me

The River & Me

Crystalline clear,

Youthful and free.

Together we play -

You and me.

We twist and turn -

You lead, I follow.

Together we play,

Swift as a swallow.

Fleeing, flying,

Tumble and turn.

Together we play

In waters that churn.

Wild winds enter and shatter the spell

Of peaceful time enjoyed - together.

Disturbing the mirror-like waters, the knell

Declares another life for the ether.

Water whipping, lashing;

Playful no more.

Happy we were,

Now we're at war.

You toss me, careless -

I'm beaten black and blue.

Happy we were,

'Till betrayed I was, by you.
