Campfire

Restless dancers lifted the dark veil

Surrounding the circular stage

With their sprightly dance,

Warming all who saw.

Brought to life with a single spark

That blossomed and grew,

They leapt and swayed

Each higher than the last.

The amiable audience

Held small offerings out

Of soft, plump marshmallows -

A stake through their heart.

Engulfed eagerly,

Fiery hands flared blue

'Till the offering withdrew -

Burning grip banished.

Those once lively dancers -

Their life burned so bright

'Till a crystalline river flowed

And dancers put to rest.
