*Eun Sang's POV*
"Doctor Cha? Doctor Cha..?" I snapped out of my thoughts, at the resident who was waving her hand in front of my face."Are you okay? I've been calling you for awhile but you didn't answer," She looked at me concernedly. "You should take the day off-"
I shook my head, "I'm fine. What is it?" I kept the invitation Bo-na gave in the drawer, her words replaying in my head.
"It's time for your rounds, Mrs Lee was complaining about her headaches again while Mr Kim has an infection in his operation site,"
I got up from my chair and grabbed my stethoscope from the side of the table, placing it over my neck. "Did you give him the antibiotics that I've just told you to earlier?"
She nodded, "Yes,"
A small sigh escaped my mouth, "Let's go,"
My mind kept playing back to earlier where Bo-na had told me something, distracting me entirely.
Just then, a loud screeching alarm burst through the corridors of the wards.
"Attention, due to an explosion in a factory nearby, there will be many casualties arriving at our emergency room. Medical staffs that are not in the operation rooms or are off duty, to report to the ER and provide assistance."
I immediately picked my pace, eventually breaking into a full run with Ae Min, the resident, following behind me to the ER.
Chaos was an understatement as to what I saw in the ER, casualties covered in blood groaning in pain, being pushed in continuously from the glass doors. Nurses and doctors alike, regardless of position were dashing behind curtains to curtains with medical equipment in their hands.
I pushed away all the thoughts I had from earlier, more or less having to do with Kim Tan. Intending to focus solely and fully on what is happening right now.
"Where do we place him?" A medic staff asked frantically, a man in his fifties covered in blood and shards of glass. A metal rod was stuck in his hand.
He groaned loudly in pain.
I directed him to an emergency ward, "Ae Min prepare an operation room immediately."
------
I stood away from the surgical table, stretching my neck as I placed the forceps back onto the metal tray, "Ae Min, finish it up.""Yes doctor." She took my place and began stitching up the surgical site.
It has been almost 10 hours since the chaos in the ER. Most patients had been treated while some are still in the operating rooms.
The staffs helped removed the surgical gown before I stepped out to the washing area.
"Eun Sang, come clean with me. Is there something going on between you and Kim Tan?" Bo-na asked, frowning as she sat in front of my desk.
It seems as if everyone was coming to my office for some sort of high school reunion. Just the other day, after Young Do left, Myungsoo had came with his Mother for a check up.
I shook my head, "There's nothing-"
"I was at his office yesterday," She placed her wedding invitation in front of me, "When I was leaving, a lady came in,"
I smiled at her, "It's probably a client," I lied. Not to Bo-na, to myself.
She raised an eyebrow at me, "A client doesn't wear a red dress that isn't long enough to even cover her underwear! Neither does a client wear boots that are up to her thighs! She's clearly from a nightclub!" She huffed.
"Eun Sang, I've heard from Young Do," She paused, "Chan Young knows it too," She looked at me in the eyes.
I maintained the smile on my lips, "It's nothing, we're fine, I bring lunch to him every day-"
"Eun Sang ah!" Bo-na exploded in frustration while I blinked to keep the tears away. "If you're going to be like this, not even Chan Young is going to be able to help you!"
She then took in deep breath, pushing the invitation to me across the table, "I handed this to him earlier but I'm giving you another one because I want you to be one of my bridesmaid for my wedding,"
"We're trying the dress on next Monday, you'll be able to make it right?" She asked with her eyes matching a puppy's.
I nodded, "I will,"
She grinned before taking her handbag from the side, "You said it yourself, I'll see you on Monday!" She exclaimed excitedly.
I chuckled and nodded my head again.
She glanced at the watch on her wrist, "Oh no, I'm supposed to meet Chan Young in 5 minutes, Cha Eun Sang I'll see you on Monday!" She said as she scrambled out of my office.
My hand paused from placing the operation wear into the laundry basket in the corner of the locker room when thoughts rushed through my head again, a lady and Kim Tan in his office-
"Doctor Cha!-" I shook the thoughts out of my head, looking at the nurse who was at the entrance of the locker room, "-One of the patients' family had bought food for our staffs, come join us in the office!" She said happily, it has been a long night and most staffs haven't had their meals yet.
I nodded, "I'll be there in a moment, I'll just do my rounds first,"
------
I checked the vitals on the machine, examining the wound on the patient's abdomen."Change the dressings every two hours and give him painkillers when the anesthesia wears off," I instructed Ae Min.
"Ne, Seongsaengnim (Doctor),"
We finished the rounds and eventually headed to the office.
It smelt like seafood in the room, causing my stomach to churn uncomfortably. A queasy feeling sat behind my tummy, .
"Doctor Cha, there's kimchi stew, soybean paste soup-" One of the Nurses listed down, there was a spread on the table, from stir-fried meat to side dishes added by the staffs. "-and your favourite spicy seafood noodles," She reached over and grabbed me a small bowl where the noodles were served, the fishy smell infiltrating the air completely in front of me.
"You look pale-" She commented with a worried look.
Bile rose up at the back of my throat from the smell of the noodles, and before she could get closer to me-
"Doctor Cha!"
I placed a hand over my lips as I ran towards the bathroom, emptying out the contents in my mouth.
A fellow nurse who had followed me, held my hair up behind me.
She passed me some paper from the toilet roll, "Are you okay?"
I nodded with my head feeling light and dizzy, "I'm fine..." I lifted a hand to pull myself up with the nurse helping me by the side.
I staggered a little, my vision getting blurry by the second.
"Doctor Cha. Are you okay- Doctor Cha? Doc-"
Her voice faded off as my eyes rolled to the back of my head, darkness claiming me as its own.
