(Kohaku's PoV)

I was sitting in an alley when I heard a overwhelmingly deep voice, "Hello young man... What are you doing all alone in the streets?"

"W-who are you?" I asked, looking around frantically.

"I'm Vaatu.. A spirit." The voice said, revealing himself.

I look at the black and red spirit up and down, "W-why are you here?"

"Why..? I'm here to help you regain your bending.." Vaatu said, floating closer to me.

"I-I don't understand.." I say, stepping back only to find a wall against my back.

"Well, Kohaku. I want to beat Raava.. My enemy." Vaatu answered, floating right in front me.

"W-What's that got to d-do with me?" I say, scared to death.

"You were the only one I could get in time.. I would have picked someone different but.. I had no choice.."

"W-What if I don't w-want to have my bending back..? I'm fine with being a non-bender.." I say, trying to slip away.

"Don't you hate your parents for what they did?!" Vaatu asked loudly.

"I-I don't hate them.. I just don't like what they did.." I said, looking up at Vaatu, rather confidently if I do say so myself.

"Well.. Would you like them to come back...?" Vaatu replied.

I then nodded, but then immediately regretted it as two figures appeared in the smoke.

(Third PoV)

Kohaku sat up suddenly in a cold sweat. Breathing heavily, He looked at his surroundings, finding himself not in my usual trash pile in the allies but, Laying in a pool of water in a blue tent.

As he looked around, an old lady walked in and saw that he was awake.

"Hello, young man.." The lady said, sitting down in a chair next to the pool Kohaku was in. "My names Katara.. May I ask yours?"

"I-I'm Kohaku.." He said, playing with his bangs as a nervous habit.

"Nice to meet you, Kohaku. Do you know where you are?" She asked, looking at me with a smile smile.

"No.." Kohaku said, looking around nervously.

"Your in the South Pole.. The Healing Hut." She stated.

"W-why am I here?" He asked, trying to get up with no success.

"Some people found you the the snow and brought you here." Katara said, noticing his struggle and helped him to his feet.

He then asked, "But what am I doing in the South Pole!?" Before falling down into the pool again.

Katara look at him with worry, "What was the last thing you remember?"

While sitting in the pool, he said, "I-I remember being attack by a black thing in Republic City.. After the fight the avatar fight ended.."

Katara nodded in reply before opening the the fabric door and asked for some help.

Soon after, a man with a red scarf came in and said, "Okay, what do you need me to do?"

"Help this boy up and walk him out to Tenzan. He's going back to Republic City with you." Katara replied. "Kohaku, this is Mako. He'll help you."

"Yes.. Thank you." Kohaku said politely, before Katara left to tend to other people in the hut.

Mako then walked up to Kohaku and held his hand out, "Come on, kid.."

Kohaku quickly took it and was pulled up on to his feet.

As they started to walk, while holding hands, towards a group near a bison, Mako tried to make conversation, "What's your name, kid?"

"Kohaku.. Y-you can call me Koha.." The boy said as they got closer to the group.

"Are you a bender of any kind..?"

"I-I used to be.." Koha replied, squeezing Mako's hand tighter, he felt like he could trust the man that escorted him. The felt he could tell him anything. "I found out I could fire bender when I was 7... My parents weren't benders at all and were against bending completely.."

"How'd you lose you bending?" Mako replied, looking down at the boy with concern.

"That's when my parents joined the equalists.. They brought me to Amon and I was tested on to find out how to take away bending.. That's how I have natural blonde hair and these.." Kohaku said, pulling his right sleeve up to show his scare along with his right ear.

Mako was speechless, he couldn't believe what this boy went through. Himself has had his fair share of tough times but, this small boy seems to have went through way more then he ever could have handled at such a young age..

Their walk continues in silence until they reached the group of people.

"Mako! My dear brother! Who is this small child you wish to present us?!" A man, whom was younger than Mako said, over dramatically.

"This is Koha.. He's coming with us back to the city." Mako said, ignoring his overdramatic brother.

Surprisingly, no one asked any further. They all said their goodbyes and they headed out, back to the big city.
