"Mom, can you tell us about the Avatars and Legends and specifically what they do?" Nita asks me.

Bumi pouts. "Ah, come on. I wanted to know what happened next," he says sadly.

I smile at him softly. "Don't worry, darling you will," I say to him. "Let me explain some things."

Avatar. A person who controls all four elements and is awakened when danger is coming. He or she is connected to a person called the Legend. The Legend and the Avatar are destined to be together. If they are not, they will not have the ability to have children with another person or be truly happy.

Legend. He or she has the same abilities as the Avatar. They balance them out and keep them level headed as well as make sure they stay on track.

"That is mainly their jobs. Now, I'm going to tell you about the first Avatar and Legend."

Avatar Wan. The first Avatar. After being banished from his home, Wan learned to communicate with the spirits. He decided to help bring balance between them and the rest of mankind, a quest that eventually led to him becoming the first Avatar.

Legend Sera. The first Legend. Living on the streets as an orphan, she meets Wan. Sera helped Wan communicate to the spirits because of her calm and warm nature. She decided to help bring balance between them and mankind, this led her to become the first Legend.

As the times went on and on, the Avatars and Legends brought peace and harmony to all the land.

"This pretty much it for the Avatar and Legend," I say sheepishly.

"Mom, can you tell us about Gram and Gramps?" Bumi asks, suddenly interested in the history lesson.

"Of course, darling."

When the sun and moon were created, two beings were born as well.

The beings were soon named and given their tasks.

King Celestial, ruler of the sun, day, and light. He gives energy to the firebenders and earthbenders.

Queen Crescent, ruler of the moon, night, and darkness. She gives energy to the waterbenders and airbenders.

The two rulers realized that they were stronger together and decided to become a unity.

They were married for centuries before having their first two children. Twin boys to be exact.

The oldest, Prince Solar, was given the second name Kuzon and was gifted the talent and mastery of firebending.

Prince Lunar was given the second name Kazon and was gifted the talent and mastery of waterbending.

Four years later, the queen became pregnant once again. This time, she bore twin girls.

Princess Celestia was given the second name Neomi and was gifted the talent and mastery of earthbending.

The youngest, Princess Luna, was given the second name Naomi and was gifted the talent and mastery of airbending. She was born at the same time as the Avatar, making her the Legend.

The king and queen made the decision to send their children to the mortal realm soon after the twin girls were born. They left each one in trustworthy hands.

Kuzon was given to a merchant in the Fire Nation, Kazon was taken care of by the Northern Water Tribe's chief, Neomi was appointed as the king's soon to be maid in the Earth Kingdom, and Naomi was sent to the Southern Air Temple to be with the future Avatar.

As their parting words to their children, the king and queen quoted their mantra.

'Heroes may never die, but they never live until it is too late.'

"Wow, that's a lot," Tenzin says with wide and curious eyes.

Bumi nods his head. "Yeah, it sure was. Can we get back to the story now?" he asks impatiently.

I laugh behind my hand. "Sure."
