The bell rung ending first period when Mrs. Mills called out and told us not to forget that our essays on The List a book we were reading for class was due tomorrow.
"Dammit, I haven't even started." Daisy groaned. "How many pages does it have to be again?"
"3." I answered and Daisy mumbled out complaints. "Maybe if you would've started a week ago, you wouldn't be in this mess." I chuckled as we walked to the third floor.
"Have you started?"
"I've finished." I bragged. "Took me only 2 days to complete." I added, looking at my nails for dramatic effect.
"Oh whatever." Daisy rolled her eyes. "Stop bragging nerd." She teased and I laughed.
As we entered the third floor hallway, we heard the sound of a body being slammed against a locker and Daisy and I both knew who the victim was and who the perpetrator was.
Reaching the crowd, we pushed passed the group of bystanders and I saw Tristan on the ground with Hayden hovering over him.
"What did I tell you about not completing my homework, nerd?" Hayden fumed.
"I-I'm sorry." Tristan apologized, while he protected his face.
Handing my backpack to Daisy, I walked into the middle of the circle and stood in front of Hayden crossing my arms.
"Hit him, I dare you." I taunted and Hayden laughed and scoffed at my bravery. Truth is, I knew he wasn't going to hit Tristan with me standing in the way. It's not that Hayden was scared of me, because he wasn't. Hayden just didn't want to risk hitting me in the process cause I'm sure his precious girlfriend, Alyssa, would break up with his ass if he did.
"Why do y'all nerds come in flocks?" Hayden remarked.
"Just like y'all jockasses do?" I grinned. Hayden stepped closer to me, but I didn't back down. His nostrils were flaring, and his hands were going into tight fists.
"HAYDEN!" We heard a squeal. It wasn't one of the teachers, but instead, Alyssa. "I THOUGHT I TOLD YOU!"
"Babe, c'mon, the nerds started it." Hayden smirked, turning around to face Alyssa, who's own face was fuming. Hayden's expressions had completely changed with the sound of Alyssa. She stomped over to him, her high heels clicking against the floor
While he and Alyssa were arguing, the crowd broke away and I snuck off with Tristan and Daisy into the girls' restroom just as the warning bell rung.
"Crap, I can't be late to Geometry. Bye Kells, by Tristan." Daisy waved off and dropped my bag next to my feet. Daisy scurried off to class. It's not like she even cared about being late; it's just if she was, Mr. Young would call her mom and Daisy did not like upsetting her mom.
"Aren't you going to be late for your next class?" Tristan asked.
"I could say the same about you."
I placed a wet paper towel on his lip to clean him up.
"My teacher doesn't mind if I'm late."
"Same here."
"Thanks for this Kaylie. You know you don't have to."
"Just like Hayden said, Tristan; us nerds stay in a flock. Well, more like a pack." I laughed and Tristan smiled. "I don't think Hayden will be bothering you for at least another day." I said referring to Alyssa.
