"What do you mean? Where are the rogues? Is Cameron okay?" His mom asks in one breath. I would roll my eyes if I didn't know their past, so I gave his mom a reassured look.

"Don't worry, he is very strong and can take on at least five rogues on his own." I say confidently, while his family and mine look at me with wide eyes. Don't get me wrong, I am worried about Cameron. I just know he take care of himself. Miss Ali chuckles.

"What is it, Miss Ali?" I ask her. She shakes her head.

"I just remembered when you and Cam went on the ferry to Lady Liberty and those rogues tried to take you guys." She says, smiling at the memory. I laugh and the other freeze.

"Why would that be funny?" My dad demands. I laugh again.

"Because...they didn't know Cam already shifted and since they were trying to get me to go have some fun, Cam pretended to be my protective mate." I laughed again and tried to continue, but couldn't, so Miss Ali continued for me. Everyone gave me a weird look.

"They left them alone, but they still had to pretend to be mates the whole time. Though they figured out that they weren't real mates and surrounded them with their buddies. Ten against two." She said.

"Who won?" Cam's brother asked. I smirked.

"We did, of course." I said. My mom gave me a knowing look. Uh oh.

"Soo...are you and Cam...together?". She asked. I would be spitting out water if I had any.

"WHAT? Are you crazy? He's like my best friend. Like my own brother." I make a face, to which Miss Ami laughs. " That's just gross.". I make another face as an image of that pops in my head. Eww. Everyone starts to burst out laughing at my facial expressions.

"And that is why it was funny." Miss Ali said, smirking. I fake glare at her before we both start laughing again. I sense someone entering the room and I look up to see the boy from the airport. Mackinley Winters. I didn't know he was still here. He was laughing too. My phone rings at that moment and I answer it, the room going quiet as I put it on speaker.

"Hello?" I ask. I hear panting on the other end. Cam. I smile.

"You know..." He starts, but takes a deep breath before continuing. "I know you hate phone calls and all that, but do you have to leave the pack link open? I mean I could hear your whole conversation and I am not that gross Scar." He says defensively. I laugh.

"Oh Cam...you know I don't think you're gross...You're the one I can count on and knows me better than anyone else...". I say slowly, knowing it was true. I think of the night before I left, knowing he is too. He sighs.

"Yeah...well I got those da...darn rogues of my tail. I'm fixing to take off from the airport, so I have to go. Love ya Scar." He says, correcting himself from using foul language for my sake.

"Be safe, Cam. I love you too." I whisper.

"Always." He said before hanging up.

"Always..." I whisper to myself. I feel my eyes water up, thinking of when I almost lost him last time we said that. But then I remember I had a room full of people. I looked up to see everyone looking at me in surprise, but one set of eyes are full of an anger I can't place. I look away. Miss Ali comes and hugs me.

"Hey...he will be okay. Nothings going to happen. That won't happen again."She said firmly. The others look confused.

"I thought you said you guys weren't together?". My brother asks. I shook my head, but can't say anything. Imagines are haunting me.

"They aren't...together. Well not the together you are thinking about." She takes a deep breathe and explains before anyone can ask. I notice that everyone sat down around me, but I can't bring myself to move. "You see...a few months ago, Scarlet was kidnapped. She didn't know what she was and was powerless. Cameron, on the other hand, knew of werewolves due to his wolf. He hasn't shifted yet, but his wolf was still there. His wolf directed him to where she was, but she was badly beaten and unconscious.". She took a deep breath, and i tried to hold in everything and watched it in my mind. "He had to fend of many rogues while in human form, and was seriously injured. She awoke before the final rogue could kill Cam, and at the same time, so did her wolf. Her wolf guided her into what to do to help him."

~flashback~

"Cameron!" I yelled, running over to his bloodied body. "Stay with me Cameron, you have to stay with me!" I yell frantically as I seen him slowly close his eyes. "Cameron Dallas White, don't you dare close your eyes on me!" I growled out. His eyes shoot open, frantically searching until they find mine. A voice in my head told me to put a hand on his head and one one his heart and say 'We are one. Together we protect and continue on'. I did what i was told.

~flashback over~

"He slowly healed in front of her eyes, and ever since then they have become one. Not mates, but the guardian of the other. The protector." She finished. Everyone was quiet and still, taking in the story they just heard. Tears fell down my cheek, but I didn't make a move to wipe them. I almost lost Cameron that night. He almost lost me, I thought.

"But you didn't lose me, and I didn't lose you.". A voice says, pulling me out of my thoughts and into his arms. Cameron... I wrap my arms around him as everyone jumps around us. I pull away and notice that everyone looks at us like fishes out of water.

"A perk of being a protector, I guess." Cam said, scratching the back of his neck.

"How?" My dad asks.

"I'm not sure...I heard her thoughts and watched as she replayed what happened that night. I didn't want her to be in pain and wanted to hold her. The next thing I know, that's exactly what i was doing." He explains.

"Are you guys sure you guys aren't mates?" My mom asks. Cam and I look at each other, thoughtfully before shaking our heads.

"Nope. No way. No time. Ain't going to happen." We say at the same time. Cam smirks.

"Though I'm pretty sure are mates aren't that far away." He says and I shake my head in agreement. It's true, I can feel it in my bones. I see Mackinley frown, but look away. Anger is in two pairs of eyes, mixed with confusion and what seems to be...jealousy?  My mom intervened my thoughts.

"Well this day has been a long and eventful one. How about we all go to bed and learn more about each other in the morning? Sound good?" She says, in a suggestive yet commanding tone. We all agree and say out goodnights before heading to bed. Tomorrow would be full of more knowledge, but tonight the moon will shine to guide our dreams.
