Elpida sat with her small friend at the inn's table. They were in his hometown on holiday. He was talking, but to her it just sounded like a deep buzz. Her mind was whirling. She had overheard some teachers talking about how an inn not far from the school had suddenly burst into flames. It was strange to her that someone would burn it down without reason. The owner was a nice man. Of course he had a slight temper, but he was human.

Her thoughts shifted. Not only had the inn burned down, but Apistos had gone missing.  She and Elpida had scheduled to go to a special lunch, (Elpida passed her hardest exam), but she never showed up.

Elpida's thoughts were interrupted when Mikro shook her arm. She shook her head and gave him an irritated look. His mouth was in a hard line as he jerked his head behind her. She shifted her body to look.

Behind her were three guards. She had never seen them before. But she could tell something was wrong with them. Most guards she had seen or met were loud and crude. These three were as silent a nekrotafeio. Granted it was a different town, but guards are still guards. Their eyes were hard and knuckles white from gripping the swords in their hands. But what made Elpida squirm was the fact that they were staring at her. Just staring.

Mikro glared at the three. "What the hell do they want?"

Elpida shrugged her shoulders. "Who knows? Maybe they've just had a bad day."

Mikro turned back to his friend. "I doubt that. They look as if they're ready to murder you."

Elpida was about to speak when the three walked up to them. The two looked up, expecting to be laughed at or something in that nature. What happened next was not what they wanted or expected.

The nearest one to Elpida spoke. "Elpida Aspro?"

Elpida nodded hesitantly. "Yes?"

The man then pulled her up, putting handcuffs on her wrist. "You are under arrest for the arson of the Krasi Inn."

The inn they were staying at had gone silent. Not even Mikro could speak. They dragged her outside, Mikro following.

"What the hell are you doing with my friend?! She didn't do anything wrong!"

The guard behind them spoke up in a nasally voice. "Our sources say she was there at the time of the fire. She's the only suspect."

Elpida fought against them. "I wasn't anywhere near there! I was at school!"

The guard to her left scoffed. "Unlikely. You're description was seen at that inn. White hair, elven ears."

Elpida stared at them in disbelief and then turned to Mikro. "Please do something! Help me!" She shouted for help as they dragged her away.

Mikro watched, unable to help his friend. His hands were fist to his side and he spoke with venom laced in his voice. "I'm going to kill who ever framed you Elpida. I swear to Theos." He quickly turned back to the inn to gather his things for a long journey.

                                                                                               ~~~~~
Kako smirked as he saw the girl get dragged away. He waited until the three guards came to him. They threw the girl onto the ground, splashing mud everywhere.
"Good. Very good." Kako smiled at the three, reaching behind his cloak. "You three did wonderfully. Here you are." He threw a bag of coins on the ground. The three scrambled to pick it up and check it's value. While they were distracted, Kako muttered something under his breath.
One by one, the three bursted into flames, leaving nothing but a bag of coins.
Kako's smile fell and he grabbed the girl, pulling her up by the arm.  "Come dear. We have long ride ahead of us. It's best if we leave now."
The girl stared at him with hate in her eyes. "Who are you? How did you set them on fire?"
Kako grinned at her and released her arm. "Apologies. My name is Kako Potiri. I was able to set those morons on fire using magic. You have heard of magic, haven't you?"
She nodded, eyes still set in a glare. Kako continued. "Good. Now who you might you be?"
She cocked her head. "Why should I tell you? Won't you just set me on fire as well?"
Kako barked with laughter. "Of course not. I need you."
She paused for a moment before answering. "Apistos. My name is Apistos."
Kako stared at her before grabbing her hair and pulling her down, making her cry out in pain. "Don't lie to me, skyla. I killed Apistos with my bare hands before I set that inn to a blaze. Now who are you?"
Elpida grabbed at his hands, tears starting to run down her face. "Elpida! Elpida! My name is Elpida! Please let go!"
He let go of her hair and grabbed her arm. "That wasn't too difficult was it? No. I thought not. Now come. I want to leave before that friend of yours finds us. He'll just be a nuisance."
With those final words, they were gone.
