After a long debate with her parents, Sevyn finally convinces them to let her go to school on Monday. They wanted her to stay home and rest but she assures them that she felt well enough to go to school. Her legs aren't sore anymore and neither are her arms. The only thing that still bothers her is her back but the pain killers she took help ease the aching.
She walks into school Monday morning, meeting Monica at their usual spot by her lockers. "Good morning," Sevyn smiles at her before turning her combination.
"Good morning Bonita," Monica replies. "No offense but why are you here? If my parents suggested I stay home I'd take that opportunity in a heartbeat."
Sevyn chuckles and sorts through her text books. "I'm not going to miss the first day of Volleyball practice, especially when I feel much better than I did on Sunday."
Monica scoffs and crosses her arms, "It's not like you need the practice, you've been playing this damn sport for how long now?"
"That's not the point." Sevyn replies but decides to drop the conversation. Monica has never been sports oriented enough to even pick up a ball in gym, so of course she wouldn't know what missing practice may do to Sevyn's chances of being captain this year.
After grabbing her books for her first three blocks, Sevyn and Monica walk down the hall towards their classrooms and engage in small talk. As they walk, Sevyn feels as though everyone in the hallway has stopped to stare at her. She looks to the left and right to find out that her suspicions are true. A majority of students in the hall way are eyeing her and giving her dirty looks. Some girls look her up and down before whispering with their friends. Others make a face at her and shake their heads. Confusion sets in and she grabs Monica's arm, pulling her close to speak in a low voice.
"Is it just me or does everyone look like they're tryin to jump me?" Sevyn whispers.
Monica looks around, noticing the same thing Sevyn has. "Yeah, what's their problem?" She whispers back.
Sevyn shrugs, "Maybe they found out about what happened Saturday night. Did you tell anyone Money?"
"Look I know I got a big mouth but I know my boundaries. I didn't say anything to anyone mami, thats not my place." She says. Both girls look around, feeling the heavy stares of their classmates. Monica sighs, she doesn't like when people are burning holes in her face whether they're judging or admiring. It's rude and she won't out up with it. She stops walking and Sevyn looks at her, wondering what's going on.
Monica looks around the hallway, turning in little circles. "Can we help yall with something? Y'all staring at us like some freaking stalkers, you got a mouth right? Use that shit if you got something to say." She barks at them. "No one wanna speak up though?" Her accent is thick as she glances around the hallway, willing someone to come forward. Slowly, eyes are diverted away from the girls and conversations pick up again. Monica purses her lips, "Scary asses."
She joins Sevyn again and together they continue down the hall. "What's their problem?" She asks, looking over her shoulder where some people are still eyeing at her. Monica doesn't get a chance to reply before they round the corner and bump into Macy. "Oh, hey Macy." Sevyn gives her a smile.
"Don't even go there girl, after what you did to my party I'm not in the mood to talk to you." Macy says, pushing past her. Sevyn spins around confused.
"What did I do to your party?" Sevyn asks, wondering if she forgot something that happened.
Macy sighs and turns around, her narrow brown eyes glaring into Sevyn's soul. "Because of your little drunk stunt, the police arrived and raided my party. They saw the liquor, the shots and all the underage people. They started chasing after people and arresting them. My parents got charged for child endangerment thanks to you."
