That sobered me up.
I let out a small choked noise. My fingers felt clammy as they wrapped around Aedan's bicep. Besides killing their men, I don't see why they would kidnap me. Usually, they kill, not kidnap. My heart reminded me with each beat who I was. They would try to catch me, but I wouldn't let them. Aedan's hand moved to rest over mine, which currently held his bicep.
"Why would we risk war just for a girl? Gray Hawking is apart of the Irish, and our relations with them are perfectly stable." Redhead's voice flowed past my ears.
Curl's hands were clasped in front of him, and they tightened. My breath was stuck in my throat, and I wasn't sure when I'd be able to breath freely again. Anger was bubbling up. I'd have to be extra careful now that Russo was targeting me specifically. I pushed the anger down, afraid that the slightest loss of self control would unravel me at the seams.
"Look, they won't know the difference if we just tell them that we've got her. They'll place the blame on us."
"Bullshit. Hawking's one of Dolan's favorites, they'll want to know how you even got her in the first place." I rolled Redhead's words over in my thoughts.
"No they won't, Dolan won't care how she got kidnapped, all he'll focus on is who currently has her." a smooth, deep voice flowed past my ears. Recognition bubbled up. My cheeks felt warm, but I blamed it on the alcohol.
The stranger from before stepped forward. I hadn't noticed, but it seemed like he was one of the guards that came with Redhead. The nightclub's flashing neon lights casted changing shadows across the side of his face, illuminating his high cheekbones and smooth skin. His plump lips were set in a firm line. I wondered if they were as soft as they looked. His bright blue eyes were as expressive as last time I saw them. They reminded me of the ocean, ever roaring and changing.
I could drown in their depths.
My grip on Aedan tightened even more. His gaze cut sharply towards me, a lingering question. But my attention was on the stranger with the blue eyes.
Redhead sighed, putting his head in his hands. His bulky shoulders were tense. My own shoulders and body waited for his answer to kidnapping me. A question lingered on my mind, tugging gently at the corners. What would happen if they managed to catch me? My gun, my only protection besides being barehanded, felt heavier than before in the pocket of my coat.
I couldn't let that happen. I was too close to repaying my debt, too close to freedom.
"I can't make decisions without the boss. We'll contact you with our answer." Redhead's eyes were hard with disapproval, a direct contrast to his words. He threw a glance to his right.
The stranger was now standing next to the table. His presence was demanding, and so I couldn't help but admire him. I realized, with much disapproval, that he was probably with the guys that were bound to kidnap. Kind of funny that he had saved me from getting assaulted, but now he had to chase me.
I felt Aedan's body lean towards mine. His mouth was right next to my ear as he whispered. "Let's go."
He didn't need to say it twice.
We hurriedly made our way out, and I couldn't help but find it difficult to tear my eyes away from the stranger. His blue gaze flickered across his surroundings. Redhead and Curls had went back to discussing details.
With a jolt, his gaze met mine.
Something foreign flickered in his expressive eyes. But it was gone as soon as it came. He broke the trance, his eyes landing back on Redhead. My lips were probably red and sticky by now from me biting on them so hard. Aedan's hand tugged me out of the VIP section and through Nightingale's doors.
The air was cooler than it was before. Goosebumps spread welcomingly. Aedan gave me his coat, and I snuggled into the leftover warmth. It was far too big for me, but it was a coat nonetheless. Neither of us said anything for a while. His lips were set in a thin firm line, and he threw me a glance.
"Gray, I've got your back." his words were short but comforting.
Since I didn't really feel like being polite, I just gave him a nod. Being in the Irish Mafia has always painted a target on my back. It just hasn't been this big. I itched for a cigarette, and my fingers twitched. Even if I was kidnapped and they were to kill me, lung cancer would probably be in my future like a trap. That would probably kill me on its own.
"Do you want to tell Finn?" Aedan asked as he rubbed the back of his neck.
"I mean... I don't think it'll really help me. I'm practically on my own." I murmur.
Aedan sighed, before taking my hand. "Lets go. I'll drop you off at your apartment, and I'll take care of Finn."
I let him pull me to his car. His hand was warm and somewhat of a comfort. Aedan and I have always treated each other like best friends, even though we were just partners on a couple of assignments.
Letting go of his hand, I pulled my own weight into his car. The air inside was icy as well. Aedan got in while pushing his hair back, a fidget of his. All of a sudden, his blue eyes darkened. He opened his mouth.
"If they actually kidnap you, I'll kill them."
