Chapter 1: Time to find a wife
Kole POV
I heard my curtains being pulled open a split second before bright golden sunlight filtered in. I groaned rolling over throwing my pillow over my head. I heard the maid’s shoes clicking on my hard wood floor before she stopped at my bed. She yanked at my blanket letting cold air hit my bare chest. “Couldn’t you leave me in peace? It is my birthday you know.” I mumbled into my pillow.
“It’s 9am Kole you have slept in plenty, and because it’s your eighteenth birthday your parents insist you go have breakfast with them.” I didn’t say anything I just burrowed farther down into my mattress. “Now.” She said pulling my pillow away from me and wacking me on the back with it. I sighed before sitting up and walking into my walk in closet. Abigail (my maid) left convinced that I was not going back to bed. The idea was tempting but Abigail would kick my ass if I wasn’t down stairs in twenty minutes.
I pulled on jeans and a simple fitting black t-shirt, before walking down the stairs into the dining room. I sat down at our large table across from my mother. She smiled at me before looking to my father. That was a sign that they needed to say something important to me. I grabbed an apple before saying “Happy birthday to me right?”
“We haven’t forgotten if that’s what you’re implying.” My mother said to me as I took a bite of my apple.
“In fact” My dad said clearing his throat. “It’s your eighteenth birthday.”
“Oh right. I’d almost forgotten.” I said letting sarcasm enter my tone.
My mother sighed while my father just waved it away and continued. “And that means it’s time to find a wife.”
I choked for a second before regaining my composer. “Right…I didn’t think we were actually going to follow through with that.”
“Why wouldn’t we darling? It’s tradition.” My mother stated taking a bite of her omelet.
“We could make a new tradition?” I offered.
“You don’t make new traditions son.” My father stated as if were just that simple. In a way I guess it was.
“Normal teenagers don’t get married this soon unless they’re pregnant.”
“You’re not a normal teenager Kole.” My mother scolded me. “You take over this country when you’re twenty.”
“Exactly. So how about I get married in two years.”
My father sighed as he started to get frustrated with me. “You knew you’d have to do this.”
“Ok but-“
My father cut me off. “Either you can find someone of interest by the end of this week or we will pick a girl for you.”
“You want me to just walk down the street and find someone to marry?”
“You could do that, or you could just let us pick a girl.” My father said.
“Hm let you guys chose some boring stuck up girl or I could pick a hot girl?...I think I’ll pick.”
My mother sighed setting down her fork and leaned her head on her hand covering her eyes. “At least make her somewhat decent.”
I stood up about to leave the room. “Of course mother.” I smirked.
I reached the doorway before my father spoke up. “And we’ll have to approve of her Kole.”
“Of course father.” I said while exiting the room.
************
I sat outside the coffee shop in the middle of town watching people walk by. For having lived only a few miles away from this town I didn’t know barely anyone here. I watched as girls walked by trying to consider which I liked best.
A brown hair girl with gorgeous green eyes sauntered past. She had designer shoes, a designer purse, and designer clothes. She would have fit in perfectly in the royal community. Down side? She was orange. I don’t do oompa loompa tans.
A cute tall red head walked by. Her shoulders hunched in, her clothes were baggy, and she let her hair cover half her face. She obviously had no self-confidence. Personally I wasn’t good at ego boosts.
The next girl dressed like a prostitute.
Another was too nerdy.
Another looked like she could easily beat me in a fight. Way to much muscle.
I gave up throwing my coffee away, and stalking down the street.
My parents are going to have to find me some girl. She’ll probably be a girl who’s all proper and boring and doesn’t know how to have fun. She’ll wear one of those extremely smooth tight ballerina buns, and dress suits. She’ll try and have smart conversation with me and make lots of meetings about country business. Plus she’ll probably be lousy in bed.
I rounded the corner just as a runner slammed into me. Out of instinct I grabbed her waist as her full momentum pushed me over. I landed on the pavement back first while she landed on top of me. “Oh god.” She said pulling her head phones out. “I’m so sorry. I didn’t see you and I wasn’t paying attention. My bad.” She was blushing as she helped me up. Her long blonde hair was pulled back into a smooth high pony tail. She had on a tight blue tank top over a black one, and good looking black booty shorts with some simple converse.
“No sorry I should have moved.”
She laughed putting her hands on her hips. Her smile was gorgeous. “Like you had the time.” She moved to get passed me.
“You really think your that fast?” I said stepping in front of her.
“Ya I’d like to believe so.” She said side stepping me.
She started jogging away again. “Wait!” I called after her. “What’s your name?”
She stopped turning around. “Wouldn’t you like to know?”
I walked closer and luckily she didn’t turn to run again. “Actually ya I would.”
“What no corny pick up line?” She asked squinting against the sun, which lit up her grey eyes.
“Not yet.”
She laughed again. “Ok. I’ll tell you mine if you tell me yours.”
I held my hand out to her. “Kole Asher.”
She grabbed my hand and I noticed how small and soft hers were. “Sienna Violet.” She pulled her hand away much to my dislike. “I’m gonna start running again.” She turned to leave.
“I’m gonna marry you someday.”
“Now that was corny.” She laughed before putting her headphones back in and running away.
“No, that was the truth sweetheart.” I said to her retreating back.
