We were in class and I think for the first time ever I was willingly sitting at my desk. Today was just one of those days I didn't feel up to, pretending to be me "Graduation and awards night is coming up. I am very proud of this class. Several of you will be recognized for your achievements throughout the year"
Cory was cut off by Maya standing up and slamming her hands on the desk "Awards are a scam! A girl like me never had a chance, Matthews. Never had a chance" It was silent and Maya looked over at Riley "Alright, I'll do it, but it's ridiculous"
Then she stood slamming her own hands on the desk "It's a scam, Matthews! She never had a chance!" Cory ignored the girls and read off his tablet "Maya will be receiving the griff Hawkins totally cool award" As the class clapped Maya calmly took her seat.
"Maya, you just found out you won the totally cool award, yet you just sit there?" Maya just looked at Riley "Oh, you're being cool. Why won't you rub off on me?" "And our two finalists for the scholar athlete award are Lucas Friar And Billy Ross"
When he says Billy Ross's name I feel myself sinking even lower in my seat "I hope you're ready for some competition, dude" "Oh, well, you know how I hate competition" Oh god Lucas don't play along. They did this weird laugh and glare thing that I'm not even going to bother to describe.
"Hey, golden boys, you wanna hop down from your cloud of awesomeness? You're making us normals feel bad" "Yeah. Right after our handshake of awesomeness" I ignored the boys as they did their stupid handshake wiggle thing.
"Every day" "Girls should have their own handshake of awesomeness" "What would it be?" As they muse it for a second they both suddenly cross their legs and flip their hair "Stop it" as they finish they turn to me with frowns "Was I supposed to do that?"
"You're our girl, of course, you're supposed to do that" I make a small playful surrendering motion before leaning back in my seat. Luckily, Cory came over and distracted them "Farkle, you are being awarded the Joseph T. R. Epstein confidence award. Congratulations"
As he gave Farkle his congrats and looked over at his desk, he finally became aware of the missing nerd "Farkle?" The weird microphone thing on his desk started speaking "Farkle can't come to his desk right now. If you have a question for Farkle, say one, a comment, say two, billing questions, three"
Cory makes his way to the desk and shouts "One. Where are you?" "You have selected three" "No, I said one" "Sorry, we are experiencing unusually high call volume. Your call will be answered in approximately" I smirked as I heard Janitor Harley's voice "35" And now we know where Farkle is "Minutes"
"Representative!" He screamed frustrated "What is this? Farkle's never missed a class in his life" Then the bell rang and we all got up to leave. As I grabbed my things Maya grabbed onto my arm and pulled me along with her.
We got to the front of the classroom and stopped in front of Cory "Yes?" He said in a weird voice that would have had me giggling had I not been so down "Everybody's getting an award but me. What good is having you as my teacher if the fix ain't in?!" She's got a point.
