Chapter 2: New Beginnings

Lilley’s point of view

---------

I lay on the couch in front of the TV, watched Daisy put endless amounts of books and movies onto our book shelves. I had kept to my word, by bringing in the rest of the boxes, but after that, I kinda just let Daisy take care of the rest. She would have rearranged everything I put away anyways, so in a way, or in my way of thinking, I was saving us time.

“Thanks for all the help Lil, really appreciate it.” She grumbled. I just smiled. I knew she didn’t mind that much. She had rearranged all the books by alphabetical order. The movies, she put in categories of genres. She insists she isn’t OCD, but I say otherwise.

“Can you believe it, we live on our own now. Tomorrow we start college.” I said, shutting my eyelids.

“I know. It feels like yesterday we were in fifth grade, pretending to be spies at recess.” Daisy laughed softly. She had a sense of sadness in her voice. It didn’t surprise me though. Daisy has always had a fear of growing up. She hated the whole idea of it. I remember, when we were only 11, and she complained about being old.

“It really does, time just flies. Remember, freshman year when we thought fourth period lunch would be the best? We bragged about it for weeks, until we realized it was literally the worst lunch period ever.”

Daisy laughed even harder, and I began to laugh too. Daisy’s laugh was contagious. We both laughed at every little thing. I swear, I would be a comedian, and she would be the only one laughing in the audience because we only find our jokes funny.

“Probably the worst lunch ever. Remember in eighth grade, when we were all playing kickball in the gym, and at some point, everyone started playing by the rules, and that one boy thought you were still playing, and he hit you with the ball as hard as he could? You flew through the air and landed on your face!” Daisy reminisced, laughing so hard.

Tears of laughter and joy ran down my face, “I had battlescars! My hip bruised and I cut my knee! Quit bringing up memories, my stomach hurts!”

She grinned down at me, wow, she was really my best friend in the entire world. I can’t imagine being without this girl. I mean, I barely remember my life before her. She’s always been there, and I’ve always been there for her. I wouldn’t and couldn’t ask for a better person to experience life with. And now we’re living together, like we had always planned, starting college together.

“Ah, that’s too funny. We have the best memories ever, or at least we think so. Hey, what time is it?” She asked me, sitting down on the couch beside my legs.

“Uh…” I pulled out my flip phone from my pocket. Don’t judge me, it was the only phone I had managed to not completely break. “It’s 11:30.” I told her.

“Shit dude, my first class starts at 8. I’m going to bed.” She patted my hand, and walked down the hallway into her new bedroom.

“GOODNIGHT!” I yelled after her.

“NIGHT!”  She replied. I don’t know why we were yelling though, there was literally no other noise in our apartment.

I smiled at that fact, and looked around. She had done a great job at decorating. She has always had a talent for that. Tomorrow, in honor of her hard work today, I’d make her, well, us breakfast.

I turned the television on, putting on the Disney channel, so no scary movie previews would play, and slowly drifted to sleep.
